2 Samual Ch 21 V 19 states: (KJV): and there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the BROTHER of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

Goliath had 4 brothers, who were also giants.
One of them came over to the Israelite side after Goliath was killed, but the Israelites didn't trust him, and so they killed him, too. It was actually kind of sad.
That's the event you're reading about, not the killing of Goliath.
Goliath's death at the hands of the shepherd boy, David, has much historical and religious significance.
There's no way it could be misinterpreted.

Let the games begin! The biblical scholar Avalos also pointed this out. You're going to get a lot of soft-show routine explanations on this one - even some that say ". err.. that must have been Goliath's twin brother..." ... etc. Maybe we'll get some some funnier ones.
(An even funnier one is where a verse says this king guy rule 18 years while another says he ruled 10. Explanation?
"... smudges!!!") I kid you not.
