She knows that digging holes in the yard is bad, because when caught she knows better. Does anyone have a solution for getting dogs to quit digging holes? I've tried just about everything, help !

That breed of dog will naturally dig. They are from the hound family and have highly developed senses of smell. Your dog probably smells something it find interesting and is looking for it. Keep in mind that if it finds anything it will bring it to you as a "gift" There are some sprays on the market, but they have little sucsess. You could try old fashioned cayenne pepper or hot sauce in her favorite spots. Realistically, confining her to a limited area is the only hope for a hole-free yard.

Beagles are such fun, aren't they??
Hubby and I have two of them, both females.
We didn't have much of a digging problem until they discovered the moles in the yard, then needless to say, the yard became a field of trenches!
They caught and killed two, and I caught one in a trap. Once they were gone, 99% of the digging stopped.
If you don't have moles, then either something has caught her attention under ground, or she's just bored. I discovered the hard way that just because you can't see the mole tunnel doesn't mean it isn't there.
Make her an area where she is allowed to dig, if you can't get her to stop. Wall it off, about one and a half feet high, and fill it with dirt. One end may have to be lower so she can get in it. Tempt her to dig here by burying treats about 1/2 in deep to make sure she can smell it and encourage her to dig for it. Once she's used to digging that deep, bury it deeper and encourage her again to dig it up. She should soon get the idea that digging here is okay. But if you catch her digging anywhere else, you'll have to stop it immediately. Clapping your hands or whistling to get her attention and telling her no should work. You may want to walk her over to her digging area and tell her 'here' for digging. Maybe waggle your fingers in the dirt to let her see it's okay. But even after all of this, if she sees or hears or scents a mole, your yard could become toast quickly.
Beagles aren't too stupid and figure out things fairly quickly.
Good Luck!

Sorry Charlie, but your dog is bored. If you do take her for walks, it needs to be a longer walk. Just putting more toys in the yard is not the solution...although I like the kibble ball idea, and hiding treats for her to find. If you can not take her for a long walk, and you have a treadmill, teach her to walk on it. This allows you to control the speed in which she walks (WALKS NOT RUNS)...making her run could cause her to get injured, so keep it at a fast walk, but if she starts to "gallop" SLOW IT DOWN!..as long as she is in shape (round is not a shape! lol) a fast trot should be ok, but she will wear out quickly....NEVER leave a dog on a treadmill unattended!

Also, getting her a "friend" is not always a good idea...it may double your problem.

Good luck!

LOL..beagles are funny little dogs. Do some reading on them and you ll find that they are pretty active dogs. I think hes probably bored as well.

Get him outside and play fetch with him, take him for a walk, buy some fun toys, or one of those monster chew bones...lol. That will keep him busy and deterred from digging to china

I hear that if you put their poop in the area where they dig, then they won't want to dig there.
