Since you have not provided with us any evidence that supports your statement, I am going to use this approach to answer your question.
Alright, So paris ranks as the #1 destination for tourists as reported by the World Tourism Organization and it is close to UK.
Could it be that Paris is loosing its rank, I doubt that. Then why would anybody make such an statement. Did you hear that gossip in a bar ? Then you should also have had a drink one or two then this question would never appear here.
I did this in google.com
typed "not a great britain" and i only got 14 pages matching those words!!!!!!! i could have ended this answer (ha ha hahhh)
but when I typed "Great Britain" i got 204,000,000 results
and for just "Britain", i got 260,000,000 results
So, 78% of the web pages about Britain say "Great Britain"
Your statement is NOT true, even a lousy calculation proves that.

No, the U.K. is made up of 4 countries and there is different ways of being welcoming to tourists. I have found, through my travels that southern areas are not very friendly and the further north you go the locals are much nicer. Scotland welcomes tourists with open arms and can show visitors how to have o good time. Where I stay most people are very friendly and really nice. If you are coming to the U.K. the best thing to do is travel about as for a relatively small country ther is a wide variety of places to see and things to keep you entertained. Whatever you decide may I wish you good luck and have a nice break.

Sounds like something dreamed up by the French tourist industry to me!! I'm a Brit and I like most foreigners, whether they're tourists or residents (the friendly ones that aren't arrogant); I even married one! I don't, however, like the ones that cheat the system and sponge off the taxpayers of the country - but then they're not all foreigners!! Oh, and by the way, I have an American friend who found the Parisians, generally, to be extremely rude!

I don't think it is true AT ALL. I dislike stupid/rude people and if they happen to be foreigners then I might dislike them by default but I certainly don't hate someone just because they come from another country. And this is DESPITE the fact that a German lady once threatened to kill me because I was unable to direct her to a left luggage point when I worked for the local council!
Please don't tar all the British with the same brush - there are a lot of idiots who live here (more so where I am from unfortunately) but there are also some lovely English/Irish/Scottish and Welsh people who will be very glad to meet you and show you around their beautiful countries.

That is not true at all. I am an American living in England, and the vast majority or people here are very nice, regardless of where you come from!
Londoners can be a bit rude to tourists at times, but you shouldn't encounter many problems. You will get that in any big city anywhere in the world, though.

oh well... just travel and you ll see
I live in Paris and no, Paris is not more dangerous that any other big city. What happened in Nov was in Pris ghettos because living in those ghettos make you feel like **** just like in ghettos everywhere else in the world. And instead of watching Fox news, like I said, you should better travel and see how you will find good/bad people everywhere in the world.
Anyway London is great a lot of friends of mine are there and Brits are cool. The only thing is that everything is really expensive there.

I spent a week in London last year and found Londoners to be charming, friendly, and helpfull. Without exception, I'd recommend London to prospective travelers.
Parisians, by contrast, seemed tolerant at best. They are, by nature, generally less friendly... less gregarious. I loved Paris and would return if given the chance, but their culture is much more serious. I also found Parisians to be helpful, however, it always seemed to me that they were masking their contempt for me behind their clinched smiles.
I should note that I am not the "ugly American" when traveling abroad. I am very respectful, warm, inquisitive, and friendly myself. What's more, I try to speak the language (with mixed results at times) of my host country. You'll find that people throughout the world are recipricol to respect and graciousness.

Being a widely-travelled Brit, I can say that Britain is rather less welcoming than a lot of other countries. However, the further north you go, the more friendly the people. London is best for abuse, indifference and hostility. Scotland is very friendly compared to anywhere in England.
