there are loads of things you can do, but unfortunately you haven't given your age so I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here.

Could try taking dance classes, that way you'll have to find a partner from among the ladies there. Local YMCA's generally have some kind of classes..

Could take a garden design class at you local college (looked at your other question), you never know you may find the next Charlie Dimmock.

Put your profile on something like www.faceparty.com, it's free, you can be quite specific and you can look at other peoples profiles before answering or emailing them.

If you over 55, consider sheltered accomodation, I manage one such complex and we have people as young as 55 here.. people are generally retiring younger and are more affluent in their lifestyles. Have had a few weddings between tenants ove the last couple of years..

You've heard all the usual.... don't go looking and then you'll find it etc etc. sadly there is truth in that. it's all very well saying 'join clubs etc, but it can sometimes be difficult to 'break into' existing groups. However, book clubs are good, they are usually top heavy with women and the fact that you are discussing a book breaks the conversational ice. Amateur dramatics groups are good too. you don't have to be able to act because they always need set builders, backstage crew , lighting and sound people etc etc.
there are a lot of lonely women out there, take it from one who knows.... good luck.
