It's not quite that bad here. Some of the lawsuits here are frivolous, while other lawsuits are good and make people and businesses be more responsible for their actions. Sounds like you are getting your information from someone who had a bad experience. Getting sued is not a reason not to come to the U.S.

You watch too much television. There are some pretty stupid lawsuits in this country, but when you consider that over 280 million people live is this country and it is a democratic society with freedoms not known in many other places in the world...you are going to get the occasional greedy person that tries to sue over something idiotic to get rich. Typically it's a person suing a big firm or business not their neighbors. You don't sue someone that doesn't have any money. It's a sad reality with the wealth and freedoms that exist here, but it's not prevalent. I've never been sued and I've always been friends with my neighbors no matter where I've lived. I've lived in nine different neighborhoods in six different cities and three different states. Never had a problem. You're trying to find a negative that isn't really a problem. Apply for a VISA and come live here awhile. You will probably fall in love with the country like most other foreigners that visit. It has it's problems but it offers so much for it's citizens that it can't be beat.

It can definitely be a nightmare, but frankly, it happens rather infrequently. Most people have not been sued, or if sued foolishly,, justice usually prevails. The bad/rare ridiculously unjust stories only stand out in our minds because the media usually gives them a run for their money. But Americans still continue making friends and neighbours constantly! :)

Hmm...no, I've never experienced this. Most people don't want to go through the hassle of suing someone for something small since you may lose and never recuperate your court costs. Strange assumption honestly.

While this question has no relationship to the topic, I am going to answer:
It can be the worst nightmare. My best friend was once sued by a former friend of hers. The former friend was drunk and fell in my friend's yard. She tried to sue my friend for a lot of money, hence the fact they were no longer friends. (Meanwhile, the one who fell was drunk and drunk on her own volition.)

No, that's not true. I have very little fear of a lawsuit. If you saw that on a TV show, please realize that TV has very little to do with reality.
