I am a 22/m. I am a sr in college and I grad in may and we are having a career fair next week at school also I will be interviewing for jobs. I was wanting to know, is it ok to wear small round gold ball studs to interviews? I want to look professional, but my earrings are a part of me. I think they are subtle. I normally wear square diamond studs but I know that is too much. I was wondering about the small ball studs. I am a psych major and want to be a juve delinq counselor. Many people have told me that employeers are ok with guys wearing earrings as long as they are subtle like the ones I am talking about. I wasn't sure. I don't think it should be that big of a deal. I have a professional, mature look. However, I like to be myself and express myself as well. A job isn't your identity. What do you think?? I am torn because I am not sure if the small ball studs are too much. I don't think so, but that's me. I try to keep them in 24/7 so that my right ear lobe doesn't close.
up.

Understandably a job does not define you... However try this...Go to your interview without them..Land the job, and *then* break out the earrings...At least play the system..Get in the door first- Get settled, impress your bosses, and then gradually show the full Monty.

Good Luck!!

I work in a professional office, and the rule of thumb is no earrings. I wouldn't even discuss the dress code regarding men's earrings at an interview. Once you get a job, take a look around the office and see what is acceptable. You may find that it is perfectly okay, however, in most professional offices, it is frowned upon. I believe that at places such as banks, it is written into the dress code that you cannot wear jewelry such as men's earrings. If you have had them pierced for a long time, they will not close up. I can go days without earrings and have no problem putting an earrings back through the hole. Make sure you come across as professional as possible and skip the earrings.

My initial reaction was that I'd remove them for the interview. This sort of goes along with the fact you normally wear a suit and tie to an interview, even when the company's dress code is less formal - you interview formal, then dress appropriately for work if you get the job.

Given you're applying to work with juvenile delinquents, maybe it wouldn't hurt you, since you might look like you could relate to young people more. I'd lean against (better safe then sorry) but in this particular case, it's probably ok. Definitely remove them when applying for the corporate HR job though. They won't close up if you remove the earing for 3 hours.

I think it is acceptabile for men to wear an earring. People are past that stage. Many men wear them at levels of society.

if you want the job you should not wear earrings to an interview.
after you get the job then you can ask if it is OK to wear
ear rings, then you can go from there.

which is more important, the job or the ear rings?
you make the call.
