How do we as parents and students protect ourselves against the growing violence in the school system?

This is a difficult question to answer. We can prepare our children as much as we can, but how can we prepare for deranged maniacs barging in and doing what they want. Even if we locked the school down, craziness finds a way. I think the best thing we can do is to prepare our children as best we can, pray, and make sure we take every measure to be active in our community to increase self-awareness and cut down on the violence of these child predators.

We live in a world full of random acts of violence esp. in schools. Now in order for our school systems to be safe, police officers need to be stationed in schools, at least one. I know that this can be done, because at Mount Hebron High School, which is located in Ellicott City Maryland, had at least one armed cop sationed there for protection. This can be very effective so that a suspect can be apprehended within seconds, and it may discourage students from carrying weapons to school. I strongly recommend that this action gets carried out, it may be the only way, if there are no other ways.

All these problems with violence start at home. These children are neglected and feel unloved.

Love your children, let them know it and make sure they have a sense of belonging, acceptance and approval from you the parents. Attend a good Bible based Church and have God as the foundation of your family.

With that remember, "Spare the rod and spoil the child''. Discipline them and they will learn respect for life and others.

Personally, when I was young, I was not to tell my parent everything in my mind, but with my closet friend I did, because I was afraid of my parent reaction would ruin the rest of my day, and with lack of life experience, how could my friend help me out, how about some bad friends, they might lead me to do a terrible thing to someone. So with my daughter, I tried to be her friend than her father. It was not easy because sometime I had to hold back my reaction to help her out.
Today my daughter 29 birthday, she got 3 kids. I hope my grand kids will be protected by the friendly way of their parent.

Quit letting them play these deadly games on the X box or playstations, don't sit and ponder on the news, (i hardly ever watch it, Its to depressing), Punish your children. Ground them, don't hand everything to them, make them work for it. Show them that you love them, tell them
