I'm on a strict low salt diet and can't tolerate high fibre cereals. I love cereal, but Porridge and Shredded Wheat (both low in salt) give me daily crampy stomach aches. I don't know what else to eat. Any suggestions, would be great. Thanks.

I'm not a breakfast eater & have a hard time with this also.
I go to a diet & nutrition Dr every 2 months. The greatest thing that I've found thru them is french toast. Toss the egg yolk & beat the egg white with fork & sop the bread back & forth. Use canola oil or diet margine (I love blue bonnet & the olive oil margine). fry it on med head & done in a minute, then add sprinkles of cinnamon to both sides. For a topping, I discovered sugar free pie filling,my fav is the apple.
Also is a bread that has clear & green labeling. It is 35 calories per slice, no sugar & can also find same w/omega 3 added.
Go to a large grocery store that carries lots of breads & items. In my area it's the Kroeger Stores.

IF you have time this is the best thing and its really healthy.

Start with the Silk (milk) vanilla and chocolate are the best and add some to a blender or smoothie maker

Then add 1-2 fruits that are your fav. Blend until thick. The Silk milk helps it thicken up more than regular milk does.

If you arent trying to do a smoothie, fruit is really the best option for a morning breakfast. It gives you pure sugar which is good for you and also give you nutrients from the fruit. Fruit is low in calories and if combined with a yogurt and or small bagel its quite filling.

My breakfast today was 1 apple cut up, covered in about 2/3 cup yogurt, with almonds (unsalted roasted) and cinnamon. For extra protein, I had a 1/2 glass of soy milk.

My other main breakfast is oatmeal (1/2 cup uncooked) cooked in 1/2 cup water-1/2 cup soy milk, with butter and soy milk on top. Sometimes I put almonds and cinnamon on that, but mostly not. For my protein I eat a turkey burger patty (that may have salt in it - but you might be able to find unsalted ground turkey).

I know that soy protein powder in water can relieve bad stomach aches in about 30 minutes, so I think your breakfasts may be a bit low in protein (of any sort).

Enjoy.

Breakfast Blintzes Low Salt/Sodium Recipe
Ingredients:
1 egg
1-1/2 cups skim milk
1 cup all-purpose flour
Nonstick cooking spray
1/2 teaspoon shortening
One, 15-ounce carton low-fat or light ricotta cheese
2 tablespoons orange marmalade
1 tablespoon sugar
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
2/3 cup light dairy sour cream
5 tablespoons orange marmalade
1/2 cup fresh raspberries or blueberries

Directions:
For crepes, in a medium bowl combine egg, milk, and flour. Beat with rotary beater until well mixed. Spray an unheated 6-inch skillet or crepe pan with nonstick cooking spray. Preheat skillet over medium heat. Remove from heat and pour in about 2-tablespoons batter. Lift and tilt skillet to spread batter. Return skillet to heat; cook 30 to 60 seconds or until browned on one side only. Remove from pan. Repeat with remaining batter to make 15 crepes. Lightly brush skillet with shortening between cooking, as needed.

Spray a shallow baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside. For filling, in a bowl combine ricotta cheese, the 2 tablespoons orange marmalade, the sugar, and cinnamon. Spoon about 2-tablespoons filling onto the unbrowned side of a crepe; spread out slightly. Fold in half. Fold in half again, forming a wedge. Arrange in prepared pan. Repeat with remaining filling and crepes. Bake in a 350-degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until heated through. To serve, spoon 2-teaspoons of sour cream and 1 teaspoon of marmalade onto each blintz. Sprinkle with berries.

Recipe makes 15 servings.
