You might not want to hear this but the only way you might save your hair is if you cut it. I know what you are going through, when I was in my teens, I messed up my hair quite a bit and it took years before it recovered and even at that, it NEVER recoverd fully.

If you don't want to cut your hair short, then at least trim it. You need to get rid if whatever is burned and damaged. Don't be afraid, it's only hair and it will grow back.

You also need to treat your hair. First, remember, the part of the hair that is burned and damaged is DEAD, so there is nothing you can do about it. However, the treatments will help your scalp and the new hair growing out.

If you don't have a lot of money, Pantene products have some good treatments, and if you do have the money, then go to a salon and purchase a treatment.

Also, DO NOT STRAIGHTEN your hair at the hairdressers. The flat iron more or less damages your hair, however, what the hair dresser uses are chemicals the same as a Perm and it is VERY, VERY damaging. If you don't want to loose your hair, sacrifice your look for a few months and treatr it. You will be greatful later on (unles you don't mind going bold by your 30ies..)

Your hair is damaged. So is mine, dry and rough just like you describe your hair. Just last night I went for a haircut, and the first thing she said, was that my hair is VERY dry. I have not been taking care of my hair properly and I have a relaxer. Although chemical straightening looks wonderful, you have to really moisturize it well. She told me to use a good moisturizing shampoo and conditioner, I told her I use Pantene products, she said to use a better product. Paul Mitchell, Aveeda, Redken, are good products although pricey. I will stop at beauty supply today on my way home!

You will have to keep the heat out of it as much as possible. I say this while my curling irons are heating! Also, you will need to cut your hair, as much as you can stand to lose. I'm sure a good professional can find a low maintenance style that you will like. Good luck.

First of all, it might look worse when you don't iron it, but that is one reason you are in this situation, so don't you think you should stop ironing it if it's making your hair dry? Use some conditioner. Look in the hair section of your store and read the bottles and see if there is anything to make your hair healthier.

First to get your hair back in codition, buy a hot oil treatment...VO5 used to see little packets that you just placed in some warm water to heat up then you put them on your hair according to the directions. Also, use a shampoo and conditioner made for dry/damaged hair.
Once you get your hair back into quality, start using shampoo made to smooth and sleek (I think Pantene Pro V makes one). And dry your hair in sections with a blower....pin in all up and dry it in sections from the bottom up...using a round brush or even a straight brush to straighten and dry the sections (this works well...I do it everyday). A tip to try is to get some type of gel made to help smooth and sleeken your hair...put on before drying your hair.

What do you mean by iron?? I hope you mean straighteners? There are hair products that you can spray on your hair before straightening to protect it. You have damaged your hair and you may need to get it cut. Go to a hairdresser for advice.

Stop obsessing about straight hair. Your hair sounds very damaged, condition is consistently with a lot of deep treatments -2-3 times a week. it will regain its quality after some time.

I have warned my own teenage daughter about this same problem. Take a good look at magazines and your favorite tv starts. Their hair is NOT poker straight. It has bounce and body. There is no need to do all that work to it. Whats in right now is easy, wash and go styles.

Try cutting your hair very short, with many layers for awhile until you can get over the obsession
