look on BACP website in SW London (Balham is SW17 isn't it?)

CBT is pretty straightforward, so find a therapist that you can trust and get on with

why do you think you need CBT (as opposed to, say, person-centred counselling or psychotherapy)?

Evidence-based, research-supported treatments, particularly motivational and cognitive-behavioral approaches are central to the success of a proven therapist. While the traditional treatment community has long relied on more ideologically-driven approaches (e.g., 12-step) - despite limited evidence of effectiveness - motivational and cognitive-behavioral approaches have achieved a robust track record of success over the last 20 years and are rated as the most effective treatments available. In particular, patients report great appreciation and acceptance of motivational approaches, while cognitive-behavioral interventions show effectiveness across a wide spectrum of problems, help sustain the effects of treatment, and reduce relapse severity.

I would recommend that you get a refferal from a Psychopharamcologist or trusted GP.

I've also found a few links; however, I have no idea how reputable they are. If you can't get a referral, I recommend interviewing 3 - 5 CBT therapists before you decide to start spending money and receiving therapy.

Good luck and please feel free to let me know if you have any questions.

You can find information about CBT from Mind (in the local phone book) or from BACP, or possibly from your GP or local Health Trust (Community Mental Health). If you have a look at the Mind info on their website, they give an explanation of CBT as well as telling you about the conditions it is useful for, plus real cases etc.

Please note that although CBT is a very helpful method and can achieve good results it is not useful for all disorders; depending on your problem it may be worth exploring other therapies as well to find the best and most appropriate one for you. Good luck.

The best way to find a reputable therapist is to go through your GP. In some areas the NHS has its own councellors who work with the pyschiatric services.
I have had BCT and it was very helpful in helping me recover from a very difficult phase in my life.
