There is no contradiction between peace and punishment for shirk. Everyone is accountable for their own actions. You took the decision to convert, this is up to you. But it is really sad.
However, if you want to give a picture of something, give a complete one or none. There are so may verses in Islam that promise reward and reflect the Mercy of Allah than the verses that promise punishment.
Better direct your energy towards something positive rather than taking the 'wesr' of other people as well. Enough that your soul is lost.
PS I wonder what other prophets said and what other religions are about? or you have turned into a complete athiest? All religions are about believing in Allah and there is punishment for not doing so.

Most peolple i know within Islam are peaceful, there is no escape from Gods plans, check these bible quotes and you will see a striking similarity will you not?
Revelation 20:14-15
14 And death and Ha´des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire. 15 Furthermore, whoever was not found written in the book of life was hurled into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21:7-8
7 Anyone conquering will inherit these things, and I shall be his God and he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowards and those without faith and those who are disgusting in their filth and murderers and fornicators and those practicing spiritism and idolaters and all the liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur. This means the second death.”

By nature and design, Islam is a religion of peace. However, some extreme practitioners have caused people to think that Islam breeds terrorism. We should not judge a whole population by a small unrepresentative sample.
As for the blazing hellfire, christianity and other faiths also believe in its existence. Honestly, I have renounced my belief in it since its existence contradicts the attributes of God - loving, merciful, compassionate, all-knowing, all-guiding, etc.

Isn't it lovely, "allah knows best" - not for me he doesn't! I don't listen to tyrants and dictators. As always, the mohommedans try to justify the unjustifiable. It seems that they haven't got the courage to admit that they want a violent world ruled according the laws of a vicious man (or mythical godlet).
Having said that, all religions are tarred with the same brush, believe what we tell you (no evidence supplied) or we'll kill you (unpleasantly) and you'll burn in fire for eternity (again no evidence).
It just shows that the average human hasn't progressed much beyond his stone-age ancestors.

Icarus is of course quite correct. Can I just say, your quote says 'for those who reject Allah...' in my 'defence', I do not reject 'allah' neither do I accept allah - I do not consider the concept of allah at all. Why do you religious types think everybody should be one religion of another - you never consider the fact that some people do not consider religion to have any part in their lives what so ever! When are the atheists going to get a Fair representation - fu(k the lot of you religious types - it's all bollocks you weak minded sheep.

a religion can't be peaceful or violent as religion is only an idea, it is people who make religion violent or peaceful. the catholic church during the middle ages was violent however now we in the west are more "enlightened" we no longer follow the bible to the word and use it as a reference for our value systems. islam however is prevelant in less developed areas of the world where people are not as "enlightened" and follow the out of date quran to the word when it was written for it's time many centuries ago. if you educate the islamic world to modern sensibilities they, hopefully, would see the quran as we see the bible as a guide not a rule book. however in all religions you will get evil nutters who use ancient scripture to try to solve modern problems. all in all it's a cultural problem not a religious one. muslims have to modernise or else risk being isolated more by the rest of the world and turning more of it's followers to evil.

This life is a test of faith.
'What does not destroy us makes us stronger.'
This may be a hackyned expression, but nevertheless remains true.
God does not reject anyone. We are His creation, and He loves each and every one.
God has no religion, (why would He?), itself a conceit of mankind.
Religion has been created by us in order to glorify God, but sadly misused by some in order to exercise control over the majority.
Every age brings a new and more exciting religion into being.
The Egyptian Empire lasted for 5 thousand years, yet it has passed into the dust, along with its religions, it beliefs, its culture, great works and wonderful creations.
In our arrogance, we believe life will continue as a mirror-image of today.
In 5,000 years time, we will be a mere footnote in the history books, along with our religions, our different cultures..........

Im a bit flummoxed by this whole religion thing. Can someone enlighten me as to why God put us here in the first place? If you believe in the Christian ideology that He has been around "forever" then it is my opinion that the Big Fella was BORED out of his mind being on his ownsome for what was after all not an inconsiderable period of time so "created" us as merely an escape from his boredom. In short we may be nothing more to him than goldfish in a bowl sitting atop his heavenly mantlepiece and when he becomes fed up with us... then, just like poor unwanted goldfish who have out stayed their welcome, we'll all go straight down the toilet pan with one Almighty flush!

The holy books of all the Abrahamic religions advocate violence. In many ways the holy books of Christianity & Judaism are more violent than those of Islam.
Having said that I must add that Christians & Jews do not follow their holy books literally. However Muslims do, which is where the problems start.

Dude, you need to lighten up.
alot of religious books say alot of things. Bear in mind that these books have been translated over and over again.
And alot of them do not bear that much resemblance to hte originals.
Take a look at the quran they have at the british museum.
My point is alot of crap happens in the world in the name of religion.
The fact is, all this terrorisim has nothing to do with religion. These suicide
bombers who claim to be doing it i the name or allah, are going to hell.
They are not doing anything religious, they are morons who are doing their
dirty work and trying to justify it with religion.
According to islam, suicide is against the religion.
Woow, sorry about the tangent.Bottom line,
Islam is peaceful!
Mankind is not!
