You should not have any problems. Now, if you wanted one on your tummy, I would say to wait until after you have kids. But you are probably not going to gain so much weight that you distort an ankle tat.
I have one on my ankle (email me if you want a pic). It did not hurt much-certainly less than it did to have kids-lol! In fact, to me, it was more annoying than painful.
As far as the future goes-you may not even be here to regret it. Just get it high enough that if you need to cover it for an interview or whatever, you can wear pants.
I do think that waiting a while is a good idea. Personally, I waited 14 years (way too long) but am glad I did. I had originally wanted a rose, but now I have my kids initials. I have a design I love that I will never regret.

Well firstly if you are at all worried about it, Do not do it! I always think "oh 80's girl" when I see an older woman with a rose or dolphin or something on her shoulder or ankle. I'm sure she thought it was the height of class in 1983 with her anklet chain and leggings and yellow stiletto's. Unfortunately fashions to come and go and once you've grown out of it there is precious little you can do other than wear dark tights or costly laser surgery. There are so many brilliant fake tatoos on the market now that work like transfers, why not buy these and use them and see what the reaction is first.

Besides the pain of tattooing right on the ankle I would think that is a pretty safe place to get one. I once knew a friend who's last name was Rose so she had a rose tattooed on her breast. Now, twenty years and three children later, she has a wilting, long stem rose. LOLOLOLOL

well, my ankles didn't really swell when I was pregnant. If yours do, the tattoo might look sort of funny while your pregnant, but it shouldn't change it permanently. It'll go back to normal once the pregnancy is over.

wow some harsh answers on here. I have a tattoo on my ankle it represents both of my girls birthstones. And neither of my children were born in the 80's. I think it should be fine during your pregnancy. Mine survived 6 weeks in a cast almost immediately after I got it.

Ankle tatoos on females are horrible. When ladies have high hells or open toe sandals with an ankle tattoo is it so trashy looking. This is my opinion, you may feel differently, no insult intended...

I have a tattoo on my lower tummy, after 2 kids it didn't change a bit. No worries about it changing on your ankle!

If you want to get a tattoo you will overcome the fears you are having regarding the future. If not, then you probably won't get a tattoo cause you really didn't want one in the first place. Trust yourself, you'll figure it out......
