my eletrolux packed up after only 2 years...anyone recomend thier brand?
Thier customer services, said i should get it confirmed dead, by thier recommeded service guys (at £50!) and they've give me some discount off a new one, if i called the premium rate number to discuss it! It was only £130, so it would have to be some discount! In email they agreed it should last "substanially longer" than the 2,5 years...though have done nothing about it, that doesnt involve me giving them (or thier companies) Money!

I may have not made it clear in my previous reply but the discounted
appliance offer I mentioned would be made to you as a gesture of our
goodwill since your current appliance is outside the manufacturer's
guarantee period.

With regards to the actual amount of discount, once you have had a
chargeable engineer visit from one of our authorised service centres
to
confirm that the appliance can't be repaired then you can discuss the
exact
figures involved over the phone with one of our customer care
representatives. These are the conditions and if you meet them then we
will
be able to help you.

I have had a Bosch for 18 years its a built in version but I don't think that makes a lot of difference.

Okay so they are being ar*****es but if its outside guarantee there's not a lot you can do about it. Vote with your wallet buy another brand, I have an indesit and its lasted 5 years already. You could also try a complaint to trading standards but I doubt you'll get anywhere. Also if your up to it have a major strop in the electrolux shop, it probably wont get you anywhere but It will put other customers off upset the people who wold it to you in the first place and might if we all did more of this actually get the nation good customer service eventually.

Working in electrical retailing we had a list of things like this called the VFM (value for money) list which was based on experience and observation, of what went out and what came back faulty. It wasn't something head office knew about but it was cooked up amongst us techies; fridges ran something like this:

Bosch
AEG
Zanussi
LEC
Hotpoint

My advice in any domestic appliance would be buy a Miele if you don't mind paying out the cash. Expensive but you can't break them. However if you don't want to fork out that much money, go for Bosch first and then go down the list. If you see anything with "Servis" written on it, give it a kick.

hope that's useful.

Give it up. I personly do not care much for Electrolux. I would prefer a L E C. which i found cheaper and better built in my opinion.

I swear by the "Kennmore" brand. I have a washer and dryer set thirty years old, stove and fridge 15 years old and all going strong, oh I forgot the dryer door got stuck once.

siemens is great. we have ours for 20 years. and it is still working perfectly. or sometimes the light doesnt switch on, but that is the slightest problem a fridge can have. good old german quality, unfortunately expensive too i think
