Hi! And Happy Birthday next year! Vegas is a great starter; no place like it on earth and that's a fact. Depending on how much time you have, if you rent a car you could head south to Phoenix AZ. It is not too far, just a nice drive, and stop at Sedona AZ on the way. Sedona is entirely in an area where the rocks are a deep, bright red. It is the most stunning place on earth, and very spiritual. Peace and quiet here after the hoopla of Vegas. There is also the Grand Canyon on the way to Sedona. I am kind of going backwards here, but wanted to put that in. Back up by Vegas, there is even a town where the UFO's are sighted very often. It is great and in the desert. But lets go back down to Phoenix. Phoenix is 100 miles x 100 miles in size. Very unusual and a wonderful city. Beautiful sunshine. (If you are tired of driving, here you could catch the Amtrac train toward California or Florida. But do not take the bus.) Now you are on Rt 10 which will go from San Diego to Jacksonville FL. If you wanted to travel cross country, since you will be here, there is New Mexico, Santa Fe is breathtaking. The scenery in New Mexico is just like the movies. Off in the distance are the mesas which look like chopped in half mountains, straight across the top. Nothing like that anywhere. There are native American Indian wares here. Then on to TX, Dallas is on the way, Houston has the biggest oil-rich skyscrapers anywhere. Texas is big. I mean really big. Also, has the biggest, juciest steaks you ever ate, too. You think you are never going to get to the other side. It is big. In Lousianna are the byous and the oil rigs, and very good creole food. Destination Orlando. Has 100 things to do, Disneyland, Universal Studios, etc, and a great International Airport to go home. Hope you enjoy your stay.

I guess my whole dissertation here was to not limit yourself to just one city, but maybe travel around a bit. Have a great time.

I suggest Rome, it is wonderful at any time of the year, you can get there easily by plane (which is cheap with ryanair or easyjet) and very very romantic!!
Food is great and wine too(we're talking about Italy), so you can enjoy lots of romantic dinners with your love and visit the only city in the world where past and present melt in a unique combination.
It's so colourful and it really has something magic you can't find anywhere else.

I hear the party scene in Iceland is great! If you dont want to fly all the way to Vegas, check out Iceland. Its probably just a short flight from the UK.
