The island of Lombok is what Bali was a decade ago. I still love Bali but its overrun by tourists. Lombok is quite charming and still beautiful. The Gili islands off Lombok are great to visit. Each has its own character.
In Thailand, dont miss Chiang Mai. The night market is the best place in all of Thailand to get souvenirs. I found Bangkok hot and crowded and couldnt wait to get out.

Don't know about Indonesia, but there's a lot of nice places to visit in Thailand, so it depends on what you like. Bangkok has the Chat-a-chak week end market, and there's always a lot of street venders plying theirgoods in the downtown areas. Buyer beware is the thing to remember, a lot of pirated goods and trademarks. The Rose Garden is a nice place ,, has a Thai cultural stage show, working elephants, and close to the crocodile farm.
Puket is for oceanside tourists, those who like to scuba dive, play on jet skies, water ski, ect,, some really nice tropical islands to visit too.
Chiang Mai is a lot like Bangkok, but it has a little different culture, and some interesting tours to take. Elephant rides on a jungle trail, a trip down a river on a bamboo raft, orchid farm, snake charmers working with cobras, or visit the hill tribe people.

In Indonesia, if you want food, you could go to Blok S, which is in South Jakarta. There is a variety of Indonesian food there.
If you want dvds, you could go to Mall Mangga Dua or Kota. you could bargain there and get very cheap price of dvd.
If you want some entertainment and some shopping (quite expensive one), you could go to EX which is in Central Jakarta, or Senayan City and Plasa Senayan which is in South Jakarta.
If you wanna go to clubs and cafes, you could go to Kemang area. There are plenty of clubs there.
hope this helps :)
