Ok, I used to binge on drinking coffee - I know it speeds up your heart rate and increases your metabolism, but if I suddenly stop drinking coffee and switch to something less potent like tea, is it possible that I could begin to gain weight?? I'm gaining and can't figure out the source - other than this drastic change...

The fact that it speeds up the heart rate isn't why it kept you're weight down. Caffeine suppresses appetite (and tea has as much caffeine as coffee, so does coke) You're appetite has simply returned. The best thing is to brush you're teeth 3 times a day. The minty taste of toothpaste has a similar effect, leaving you not feeling hungry.
That way you can not only preserve you're health (by skipping the coffee) but you'll be easier to talk to, and more "kissable".
Trust me, coffee causes many health problems, and more than one cup a day is poison!

Is it possible that you are replacing the time/consumption of coffee with something else? Or do you drink your coffee black, but put cream and sugar in your tea?

It's true that coffee makes your heart race, but I don't believe research has shown weight differences between coffee drinkers and non-caffeine-aholics. It could be sort of a "self-fulfilling prophecy" type of thing where you use the lack of coffee as an "excuse" to eat more of other things.

Perhaps your metabolism sped up a bit from the caffine, but overall the effect is probably the same as doing a bit of walking (perhaps a mile or so). It's the same with smoking; once you stop you tend to eat more. Either you eat more to have something to occupy your mouth, or your energy levels fall so you eat to boost them. This should get better in time.

Caffeine is an appetite suppressor. It's in just about every diet pill. So, I would say yes. (There's also that whole age thing...)

Could be, if you drank plenty, caffeine is a stimulant that speeds you up.
