I would try and get in a conversation with him, talk about stupid stuff you have done, and then just say something like, oh I once lied and said I was engaged to get paid for research. I ended up buying myself a stupid ring that cost £5 to make £20 for the day.
Or something like that!

We all have a past.If you are engaged as of now,he has the respect to back off.You need to consider your situation!Its good to have friends but maybe this guy wanted more than friendship.Is it friendship you want from him??

Just ask him if he's ok with you. You need to work on the presumption that he hasn't seen it until he says that he has. If he has then just explain and laugh it off.
