And yet, in the whole Apocalypse of John, there are often many long numbers but they are all written in letters. In the following, I am quoting some passages:
Revelation 21:17 “Then he measured its wall: one hundred and forty-four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of an angel.”
Revelation 14:3 “They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth.”
But in the most ancient version, I presume that’s the greek one, are the numbers written in figures or letters?

Because 666 refers to the symbol of the number. Not a count.

In the King James Version(not New) 666 is written in letters.

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number [is] Six hundred threescore [and] six.

I have the King James version of the Holy Bible and in mine it is written "Here is wisdom, Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast.for it is the number of a man: and his number is Six hundred threescore and six."

So it is not written as 666

Revelation 13:18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for the number is that of a man; and his number is six hundred and sixty-six.

What version are you using? If it is the NIV is really is not very accurate to the original.
