Any grain is a carb. Oatmeal is a grain and therefore a carb. Grits are made from hominy which basicly is corn, which is a grain and therefore a carb. Read the box. Nutritional information on packaging is regulated by the FDA. You should find in the nutritional information on the package how many carbs/sugars are in anything you eat.

Both grits and oatmeal are carbs... Oats are high in fiber too and tend to be much more filling, so will keep you going for longer.

If you were to add milk to this, you would also have protein too.
