It's not just America that act occasionally like this look at N Korea with their weapons testing.

Still makes me wonder who checks America's weapons.

Although I know a country who can top America, Israel!

No I'm not an a racist concerning Holocaust and such, I just found it quite pathetic that when people found out that Israel had WMD no one has done anything about it and seems to brush it under the carpet whilst they still get to bomb innocent people.

Now that is a country who think that they have divine powers or somethings as well as the fact that the US just let them continue to abuse this power, US seems less divine in this right and more like a lapdog.

I have read with interest the answers to your question, and 99.9% of them are ignorant. Some has said that Amercia is not mentioned in the bible, to opinions based on ignorance of what they are trying to say. The ONLY ONE who has a DIVINE RIGHT to anything is GOD. HE is the ONE who is IN control. It amazes me everytime I see a question like this how people who think that they have the answer to everything are like what the Scarecrow said in the Wizard Of Oz, when he said that "There are alot of people who talk that don't have a brain" They try to quote the Bible and do not even understand what it says. They also take one Verse and twist it around to fit their purpose. Your question was a loaded one from the beginning, and you knew that I am sure. However know this, ignorance breeds ignorance my friend, and if you depend on an ignorant person to help you, what does that make you? I am not putting you down, I am only trying to help you with your question, and this was the only way to get you to understand that YOU must be the one who will form an opinion from whomever you choose to give you the answer to a question, any question. That only makes you as informed as the one who you listen to. Hope this helps. Oh, by the way, Amercia IS IN the Bible many times IN the Old Testament.

There are definitely a group of people vin America who believe we are given a divine place as a country, especially Evangelical Christians who I would compare to radical Muslims, just not as violent,Yet. I will say however that while we may be a bit arrogant and condescending at times I also believe we have earned that right to some point. Who thought 200 years ago that one of the youngest countries on Earth would today be one of the if not the most powerful country on earth. Who thought we would be powerful enough to play a major role in helping keep Europe from destroying itself not once but twice in one century, without asking anything in return but a place to bury our dead. Who thought that we would be enough of an economic power that the destruction of our economy would shockwave through the worlds economy as it did during the great depression. And for all our faults and doubters and even actual wrongs the fact remains we did nothing worse than any other country to become who we are today. And I think in the long run we have given back much more than we have taken,15 Billion for Aids assistance in Africa, food aid in the billions every year all over the world, the sacrifice of hundreds of thousands between WW1 and WW2 when we had no real personal stake in it and these are but just the start of the list. So yes we are arrogant, and I guess you just have to excuse us if on occasion we decide we may have earned that right.

The idea harks back to the notion of 'manifest destiny'. This was explicitly formulated in the 1840s as a sort of 'divine' right to expand West and take possession of whatever they found. It was revitalized in the 1890s by Republicans with the broader meaning that the US should spread US values overseas.

It is also present in neo-Con thinking as a kind of 'natural selection' argument rather than divine right. The argument goes that the American way is manifestly most effective (fledgling colony to superpower in about 300 years, so the argument goes) and it is in their own long term interests to spread their values.

So I think there is a long and honourable tradition of 'divine right' in the USA.

Sadly, I think that many many Americans think exactly that - they believe that George Bush (or whoever their pet politician is) speaks for God and that the United States has a God-given mission in the world.

This has to be the biggest problem the world faces today. If we find out that Bush really did use the military against Iraq because he wanted to spread Christianity and defeat Islam, he is by far the biggest traitor in U.S. history, and one heck of a war criminal. I think there's a fairly strong chance that's exactly what is happening here.

i am an American, but America does not have a divine right. America is not Gods kingdom. When Satan was tempting Jesus, Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms in the world. Thus it is Satan in control of what is going on including the affairs of the United States. Christians are no part of the world.

Everyone that I know don't believe in some kind of divine right. However, there are some that believe that this is a "choice land", blessed by God. Except for the Civil war (a war among ourselves), and the revolutionary war that help start our country. The only battle and major loss of life was 9/11World Trade Center. no other battle or casualties from a foreign nation has ever happen on the American continent. (Pearl harbor doesn't count, Hawaii). It's not the people it's the country itself.

divine right to what ? I don't get this attitude that we Americans think we are better than every one else. It's the world that thinks we are blessed and they think we are better and they can't understand why we have what we have.I think all peoples think there culture is special, except the blacks b/c we really have no culture other than what people told us,thet we are from africa, but where and which part and what landuge did we speak and what customs did we observe??then while growing up we were exposed to jokes and ugly cartoons showing africa to be an uncivilized place where africans ate people,so we surely didn't want to relate to that.

Your question is vague. I am not sure what you think that we believe that we have a divine right to. As for your question being upsetting, no offense taken here.

Divine right to do what? They tried to stop apartheid, most don't know where South Africa is!!! Apartheid is still rife yes even in America look at white verses Black, or Mexican or their own Indian nations. Has the American Government legalized their languages yet No ...South Africa has now 11 oficial languages most other countries one or two....What a mess....I'd say it is a self obtained right/rather force
