Facial expressions and body language are very important during communication. Some say that you can tell more from body language/expressions then you can from the actual words that someone says.

Facial expressions are as important in the art of communication as are words. This is the one thing where humans are so advanced over other animals - the use of facial expression to denote humour, pleasure, dislike and all sorts of other emotions. This is why Jack Straw is right. It's all very well for these women to complain and say that they can be perfectly understood by what they say, but they CAN'T, not without showing the facial expression. You get a similar effect when you're on the phone to somebody. Something said by somebody can have two completely different meanings if said with either a smile or a scowl on the face, so if these women get misunderstood, then TOUGH.

the majority of any communication is based on non-verbal communication , for example body language and facial expression.
as a result of which facial expression is very important in communication. through which people can determine alot more about the communication than the words themselves.
take teaching english as a foreign language, the teacher does not have to speak the students native language instead, the teacher uses non-verbal communication such as facial expression , finger/eye pointing and body language to communicate and hence teach the students.

There are different forms of communication. There is verbal and non-verbal. Imagine you are verbally saying the word "yes" yet you are nodding your head from left to right. This would cause confusion to your audience. To be an effective communicator, you must learn to make use of non-verbal [ie, facial expressions] to reinforce your verbal communication.

If you think about the differences between talking to somebody on the phone and in person, you will answer your own question. Your facial expressions say more than even the tone of your voice.

Non-verbal comm or body language is 80% of communication. Looking into a persons eyes lets them know you are honest. Most comm techniques hit on body language.

Well approx 90% of communication is nonverbal and probably 50% of that is facial so it is very important.
Jack Straw had it right - although to aim it at a certain race of people was f***ing stupid for his career!

A lot....in fact every movements of our eyes, brows and face can mean a lot of things....through our facial expression they also can able to determine your feelings(happy, sad, angry, bored and etc.)
In some country you have to be careful w/ your facial expressions........for us might be a sort of common mannerisms but it might mean way too different meaning for others.(I ever heard one example from an Asian country, once a woman(prostitute) winked her eyes to a guy,it means"do you want to have sex w/ me?")as easy as that.......a wink of an eye..!
