Hi
the reason sweets are so bad is that they contain mainly refined sugar, which is the worst form of carbohydrate you can have. The sugar causes such a steep rise in your blood sugar that your body goes into overdrive producing insulin to combat this, and this is what leads to type 2 diabetes in so many adults. If you are otherwise healthy & not overweight, a couple of packets a week won't do you any harm. You can be tested on the amount of glucose in your urine at most chemists if you are worried, but I would also say that life's too short to deny yourself a little treat evey now and then! :)

They are only fattening if you eat them excessively - a handful a day wont hurt and neither will not at all but you are right about the animal fat. I am a vegetarian and they contain pig fat (gelatin) if you are put off by this then why not only eat the jelly sweets that contain vegetable made fats e.g. vegetable oil. Jelly sweets used to be my favourite but after I realised what was in them - i got alittle put off...

Well 'jelly sweets' are made, basically, with gelatine and sugar. They throw in some artificial flavouring and colour too. So it is fattening and harmful to eat too many. stop it now!

Everything in moderation I say.
Maybe one pack a week? There is little or no fat in these sorts of things but sugar which obviously contains calories. Also there will be colours etc in.

I prefer both fruits and fruit and vegetables better, however they look and taste. You desire a little of both.
