Is inserting a microchip under skin painful for dog?

All my dogs are microchipped. The chip does go under the skin on the back of the neck. The needle that they use does look alarming but none of the dogs seemed bothered by it. They can feel it go in, but it is very quick and none of mine cried out - which surprised me because they are all big babies about having their claws cut!

The microchip is not in the neck, it's between the shoulder blades.

I have had nearly two dozens dogs microchipped and not a single one ever whimpered with it. Either they were all tough or the insertion was painless.

It's a great idea to have one though. Just because your dog has a collar and ID tags doesn't make it neccessarily safe. Anyone can take the collar off and turn the dog in as an owner surrender. How would anyone ever know otherwise?

They would know....if they had a microchip though!

When we chip a dog, it goes into an area on the neck where the dog does not feel much pain. It is a large needle, yet, it does not seem to bother them much. All of mine are chipped here. It is a good idea for you to do this in case your dog gets lost. When the AKC rep was here this year, he went around and scanned the adults, and then I had to give him the registered name of the dog when he read off the microchip number. It is a very good idea to do this.

I have had all my dogs and cats micro-chipped over the years.
The reaction is no more that the vaccination injection. I have been there when it has been done, so I know from first hand.

There are many mis-informed scare-mongers who will try and tell you the chip will travel all over the body and lodge in a vital organ. Yes the chip can travel a little bit, but as it is inserted under the skin, it can never get to any organs.

All my dogs have microchips. It is only as painful as a rabies shot. The chip does not hurt after it is inserted.

Both of our beagles are chipped, but it's between the shoulder blades and not in the neck.
It's a little more painful than a normal injection since the needle used is a little larger to allow the chip to be inserted, but most animals don't react to it. If feels like a 'very firm' pinch, is the way it was described to me. A flinch is normal, but rarely do they cry about it.

As i don't have a dog, I am interested in the world trend to micro chip animals. The next step will be humans. This is already happening in the world and in America, school kids need a tag in their school bag to get into the school and once their, they are tracked about the school. By using animals, governments set up the hundred monkey syndrome which will in time, influence humans to accepting the micro chip which to me is the mark of the beast.
Yes a lot of animals are so marked besides dogs. Hope this has helped you

Go for it. I chipped all my pups and they didn't notice. It's great if the little guy ever gets lost, since chipping is international now he can get lost on the whole continent and probably still get back home.

they shoot it in with a needle - the same as a vaccine. Its a pretty big needle so some dogs do go ouch but its a very momentary thing.
