I only need it to do my college work which involves typing and doing tables so as long as word 2002 has the features like header and footer, table, clip art, etc I should be ok but if not would i be better off with word 2003

The differences between Word 2002 and 2003 are fairly minor. If Word 2002 is a lot cheaper then go with that, if the price difference is only a few pounds/dollars then go with the 2003 ver.

2003 is just an updated version of 2002. Word 2002 will have all the features you need and you will have no problem using it.

If you need to swap between work from home and from the office I would suggest you use the same software i.e. Office 2003.

There were problems found using earlier programmes that meant the two were not compatible, and work could not be retreived. (in some cases)

The originals layout in both software is very simular, however 2003 has more options, and more layouts basically.

I use Open Office, its legal and free. Plus the files are compatible with MS Office, whearas you may have trouble opening 2002 files in 2003.
You can install the full suit, or just the programs you want. Its basically the same and there are tutorials to download too.

They are very similar, but whereas 2003 is in colour, 2002 isn't! I use both and it doesn't bother me going from one to another.

If you are short on funds, you could always try http://www.openoffice.org/ which is free. Worth having a look before you decide to spend your money.

If you save your files as .RTF format, you should have no problem moving them between different versions of Word, especially when they are that similar.
