Hepatits B is mainly transmitted by blood, but it's a sexually transmitted disease too, but having an infected b/f doesn't mean you must be infected too.
Hepatits B has 6 markers unlike other Hepatits viruses, so if your test was negative, that doesn't mean it must be negative, depends on which marker you were tested for, so you should consult your doctor again or post your test result here to let me know which marker was it.
Hepatits B can develop Chronic Hepatits and also a Carrier state which means remaining apparntly healthy, but carrying the virus inside the body.
Acute Hepatits can occur on top of that if you got infected with Hepatits D virus as the HDV is not infectice alone, it only works when you have HBV in your body.

If somebody is infected with Hepatitis B virus it does't mean that everyone who have sex with him/her will get the virus. You may have antibodies against the virus. Or you may get the virus in the future, if you go on having unprotected sex with him. I suggest you should be tested for anti-B antibodies. If the test is negative, you shoud take the vaccine. And please, be careful and use condoms. Hepatitis B is a serious disease, and it is transmited easily by sexual intercourse. It may bring serious and deadly complications like cirrhosis or liver cancer.

Yes it can sexually transmitted. I suggest that you ALWAYS have protected sex. There are many things that are sexually transmitted. Just think if you were to get HIV. People don't always know what they may have got and then past it on to another.
