He died not too long ago...I remember watching the Charlie Rose Show, and he was being interviewed. He was an elderly man who took photographs with a small 35 mm camera; I believe all his photographs were b&w. He also claimed he was an anarchist which I found interesting because when I think of someone who considers himself an anarchist, I think of someone young. The interview took place in a white room--must've been a gallery I suppose--with every wall lined with his work. He was self-deprecating when it came to his work. What inspired him most was the geometery of a setting. Does anyone know who I'm talking about? I'd like to learn more about him.

The photographer you are thinking of couldn't be Ansel Adams, he used a field camera, whereas Henri Cartier Bresson(the photographer I am pretty sure you are refering to) used a Leica camera, a small 35mm camera. Furthermore Bresson was a self described anarchist, and just died just a couple years back. Although Avedon died a few years back as well, he typically used either a medium format camera such as a rolleiflex, or an 8x10 view camera. Below I believe is the interview you are refering to. Hope this helps you!

I'm sure you are talking about Henri Cartier Bresson a French photographer born in 1908, one of the cofounders and president of Magnum.
He was the first photographer ever to exhibit in the halls of the Louvre Museum in Paris

It sounds like Ansel Adams to me because he died not too long ago, but if he's not who you are looking for try the site I listed below to browse some other great photographers.
