"Este caramelo es muy ácido."
or
"Este caramelo es muy agrio."

(Both ácido and agrio mean sour, either one is aceptable...Amargo means bitter)

As to phrases with DEL
Del is the contraction of DE EL meaning in english of the or of...

"Del suelo al cielo"
"From the ground to heaven" (a spanish saying or proverb, it refers to something that would take you directly to heaven...the equivalent in english might be "it took me to seventh heaven")
"Del mar el mero, de la tierra el cordero" another spanish saying...it translates "Grouper from the sea, lamb from the land"...It refers to what are generally considered the best meat & fish to be eaten.
