i'm intrigued..... Why do a lot of black people pronounce the word ASK as ARKS? I notice this more and more, they've even started doing it on Eastenders now! Is there a particular reason?

Angels hit the nail on the head - it's probably more an AXE sound than ARKS!!!

From what I've seen on this site, there are very few people who have the right to call anyone else illiterate or ignorant. Pronunciation and colour do not go hand in hand. Try understanding a white Geordie! Hey, man, it's not easy.

Some words are just difficult for some people to pronounce correctly. Or maybe they have picked up the accent from their peers, friends or families.

Things like that amuse me - have you noticed the same people also cant say LUNCH - they pronounce it LUNSH and some put 'H' in front of words like H-excuse. Ive noticed it but I still dont know why they do it.

Yeah, black people and people who believe their from the Caribbean ( who have never been there!) do pronounce ask as aks, even on Easterners! This is a question that's been haunting me and one which I should have aksed.

I honestly don't know.

That’s just how they pronounce it I guess.

Different accents sound different to other people.
