i have been signed off work with an acute aniexty state and feel really down. I feel as if i have let everyone down and cannot seem to get a grip on what has happened. I work in a high volume restaurant. I have had problems with my P&L where people where signing off invoices against my accounts and not helping me get the credits back, then the pressure was on to convert the P&L and other measurables, to do this i had to spend more time sorting it out and then spend more time to do the other areas of the job. I have a inexperienced management team and this does not help as i constently get phone calls form them on my days off to help them. I am so anxious about them i find my self fretting after every day i work. The final thing is there was a stock varience problem and i couldn't work it out, i spent five days with very little sleep (maybe 1-2hrs) and litterally no food, now i'am suffering, retching, no sleep, nightmares, i wake up crying, how do i get myself back

Hi, First of all you need to take a breath of calm. Now lets go through this one thing at a time.I have some medical knowledge, some experience of working in the catering trade and some experience of being a manager. I can explain a bit here and then give you my E-mail if you want. Firstly you are not very well at the moment. you need to understand that. Next you need to understand you are not responisble for everyone else, you are not their keepers. Next it sounds to me like you are trying to carry the load of not only the restaurant (the running) but the staff and the suppliers and the Management team. It sounds like the problems have escalated and you have not had any support. Do you not have an Area Manager? If your Accounting, Suppliers invioces, delivery notes etc are not being dealt with correctly then it will have a knock on effect on your P&L's. Everything has then got worse for two reasons, one cause you haven't identified the original problem and two cause you are over tired and stressed out. you are not eating and not sleeping, and not getting the support you deserve. So we need to break this problem down into little bits and deal with it a bit at a time. There are two issues here, one is your physicall and mental health and the second is the work situation. If you want you can contact me via indriel@tiscali.co.uk Trust me and i will help you but i do not want to go into this to much on here. i am not a con artist or whatever i am a very spiritual lady who would like to help you. If you think what i have said here makes sense then you know what to do.

When you mess with your sleeping pattern and you have all that pressure on you and you have not eaten properly for days you are burning yourself out and you are on the road to breakdown county. the only cure is to get plenty sleep and lots of rest. it takes a lot longer to undo the damage than to do the damage i find. I think that you do not need to consult your doctor. by the time you get to see one you will be back to normal again because the NHS is so stretched these days. You are lucky you are such a strong person.
You need time off. Go away . Just go. Make an Emergency appointment at your doctor, ( call the surgery First thing in the morning and tell them what is going on) get the doctor to sign you off for a week. Pull the phone out. turn the ringer off. switch off your mobile.) When you are ready. After your holiday, you can return.

Create a space for yourself each day, preferably in the mornings and while going to sleep !
This space is actually a silent, calm witnessing of events of the day without contributing any reason or justification to the events. This is at the night session.. just a few minutes... it will ensure good sleep and the much needed good rest to wake fresh.
The morning 'space' also to be silent calm , and as empty as possible, and then a little visualisation of a bright, cheerful day with full of positive events ... Just visualise and leave it .... no anxiety about whether it will happen or not... You will notice, things will improve faster than you imagined.
Good luck and best wishes !

I personally suffer from anxiety, but am being treated for it. It sounds like to me that your job is no good for you at all and please listen to me when I say this. If the stress is doing this to you...does that job really mean that much? You may get paid a lot of money at that job, but are you happy? It doesn't sound like it. Trust me, I have gone a week with barely no sleep at all. I went 5 days with none and then 2 days I got a couple of hours of broken sleep. It is so very hard on your body. You have to think about your life here. Do you want to be happy? I want you to be happy. You need to either take a leave of abcense or some kind of time off and take some time to get yourself together and then figure out what you want for your life. I would be happy to chat with you anytime. Just email me.

I also was in your position in my role .. id be at work all hours and my staff went home.. someone told me to read '' One minute manger meets the monkeys .. I never looked back and I'm not the type who reads .. but after i got this book it changed my whole outlook.. Remember you are only as good as the people who work under you .. so you need to get them all together and tell them its not acceptable and they are accountable for all their actions and if they don't they will not have a job ..Sometimes we can avoid performance issues but if we don't address them and document everything then you will never get rid or better the people you manage.. Remember they are making you ill because they are not supporting you, and you need to get a plan and set them objectives as to what you expect from them..Micro manage them .. Plus you could get your best person and coach them to look after things for you and stand in for you when you are not there.. I know you may think thats more work, but think long term it will help you and boost that persons confidence
Good luck

Are you sure you don't have to keep things in perspective?
You could be living in Iraq getting tortured with boiling water?
Ridiculous thing is I bet you could cope with that better.

With relatively minor issues like you mention the anxiety creeps up on you by stealth, before you know it you've got an irrational case of acute anxiety, and you don't have any rational mind left to get out of it. You need professional help, quickly.

Clonazepam (marketed by Roche under the trade-names Klonopin in the United States and Rivotril in Europe, South America, Canada, and Australia) is helpful for a short term use. Take 0.25 mg in the morning.

You must cosult a psychiatrist as soon as possible.

Count yourself fortunate that you no longer have to work in such a stressful environment. Go find yourself another job, and put this horrid experience behind you forever.
