It's a psychological defense called "denial" When the issue is woman's compassion, or a concept like "mother love", people will claw your face off before they dare consider that some women behave without compassion, or worse of all, some mothers do not love their children. People have all experienced at least one moment where their mother was lacking in compassion, or where they feared she did not love them. And mayhbe she did not love them. That's the thing about fear, you have to face it to know it is not true, and if there is a chance WHAT YOU FEAR IS TRUE, better to go to prison for three decades for ripping someone's face off than risk feeling the pain of being an unloved child. (In reality, people do survive these realizations). This is not an intellectual battle. You are confronting people's worst fears. Combat veterans will take hearing they killed innocents for a lie with better grace, televangelists will admit there is no God with more ease than most people will concede that mothers do not always act like saints and angels, or even like the natural mothers on wildlife shows. .

Since "ubiquitous" means "present, appearing, or found everywhere" (according to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary), its antonym would be "absent" (i.e. not present). I don't think there is a direct opposite to this word, although many other synonyms for "absent" or "not present" can also apply.
