Where can I find symbols in OpenOffice?

When I'm writing a document in openOffice, I cannot find where to insert symbols from,such as dollars,euros, etc...

Try the "Insert" menu, I believe that there is something like "Special character". Select it, from the window that appears select your font type and then scroll down the list of characters, there should be lots of symbols.
