Rome is the most beautiful city in the world without the shadow of a doubt...its charm speaks for itself, the Coliseum,Trevi fountain, the Spanish steps,Piazza Navona, the Panthenon,St Peter's Basilica,Trajan's column,Castel S.Angelo and so on and on and on....
The atmosphere is unique, the food is sublime, the weather is exceptionally good most of the times and people are very friendly and easygoing...
And of top of that Italy is also world Champion and deservedly so!!!
But then again,I was born in Rome and lived there until I was 26, so you might say that I am a bit biased....FORZA ITALIA!!!!!!!

I have been to Italy 4 or 5 times mainly on day visits, from Florence, to Naples, Rome, Pompeii, Pisa, Sicily, etc. I have always loved the country and the people.
I agree with a another one of the people who answered, I would love to live there. I am off to Rome on Wednesday 18/10. I am going to throw 3 coins in the Trevvi fountain as I read that if you do you will marry an Italian!! (Any 40ish Italian females out there??) There are different legends however, 1 come back, 2 get married, 3 Get divorced. So 3 coins looks good on both counts.
The only thing I wouldn't like to do there is drive in the cities! Probably Sicily was the worse but Rome was pretty bad, I could easily live with this though.
I am planning a week or 2 in Tuscany next year, and will look forward to it.

Rome the capital of Italy. It has been a number of years since I last saw Rome...I was free and single and the ladies in Rome where really something. Rome is one of the most beautiful places in the world, one feels so free and very safe, maybe because of Vatican City, the Pope etc. How strange for a church to have its own police and small army to guard the right hand of God. Now Rome have a German Pope and the attitude is a little different...I wait for the day when they choose a woman to become pope. Then all the Italian men will have to watch out, no more too much amore but a little more help around the house would be nice. I also love Napoli and Venezia, Sicily is a place of intrigue due to its reputation of the Cosa Nostra, but, apart from that I would recommend Italy to anyone.

3) GREAT FASHION SENSE! How many designer labels are Italian?
4) Fast cars .. (I want a lamboughini)
5) Great food and red wine .. who doesnt love spaghetti
6) Great sking in the north and beachs in the south

I haven't been to Rome - yet - but I've been to Italy lots of times. I went to Calabria when I was 5 and lots of little old ladies kept giving me sweets so obviously it was my favourite holiday ever!

I went to Lake Garda on my honeymoon (but the food up there is too German) and have just come back from Tuscany where I took my son on his first foreign holiday.

What is really noticeable about the Italian people is how friendly and understanding they are about families and children. Parents spend time with their children and people don't 'tut tut' at you if you take a baby into a restaurant. If the baby is screaming on a train (ahem, who us?) the people around you don't get cross, they play with the baby to cheer him up. I commute every day on British trains and that has never happened here.

On our last holiday we went to Lucca (we've been lots of times and love it because its a bit more relaxed than most cities) and then to the Maremma region between Florence and Rome. I had intended to go on a day-trip from Grossetto to Rome, but the hill-towns and countryside around Grossetto was so pretty that we didn't get around to it.

I can't wait to see Rome, but I'm going to leave the rest of my son's 'Grand Tour' until he's a bit older - he's not quite 2 yet, and busy cities can be difficult. I hope that when I'm looking for top tips about visiting Rome, you'll be there with an answer.

Congrats on the World Cup (I'm Welsh - there's not much point in being competitive!).

As a citizen of the US I must confess that Italy is my favorite place in the world! Everyone there is so gracious and kind they make you feel so welcome. The country is beautiful, the food is fantastic and it just feels good to be there.

I fell in love with Portofino! I came back to the US and almost convinced myself to sell everything I had and move to Italy. A week later I met my husband. Had I made the move, I wouldn't have him.

He has not been to Italy (I know he'll fall in love the way I did) so that will change next Fall when we arrive in Rome!

I can't wait to be in Italy again!

I've been working in Italy during 2 years.
Milan, Imola and after Rome.

Italy redefine word "chaos". Omnipresent everywhere: Government, traffic, Queue, laws.
(Specially South and almost none in north)

People are quite different once they frequently are driven by their emotions, what can give excellent or badly impression when you are there, once this behaviour are odd to many cultures. They are cry out within work and like they would like to kill somebody and five minutes after, everything is OK.

Italy have excellent food, is a beautiful country to discover by car, a lot of history around it. Beautiful people, a lot of creativity around, profusion of colours everywhere, a lot of green in all apartments, passioned people everywhere. Good prices if you know where to look.

Italy also have such terrible bureaucracy (even worst than in South America), politicians (specially Berlusconi) are within special category, Usually, many places have strong problem to deal with tourists (in many aspects - and this is special factor why Italy is loosing its position in Europe as a TOP3 destinations); Beautiful beaches (South Calabria, Campania, Sicily) and terrible system to "rent" it. Queues are a myth in Italy - suppose to exist but most do not know what is it.

Italy is Beautiful, people are quite different and Workable Public System is a myth;

Hi Champ,,, ok ,, i have been to your country many times, and love it every time I go.. I was there last during the Winter olympics,, which i found strangely not very advertised in Italy.. There were more foreign correspondents there talking about it.

Now, Florence is my personal favorite,,, but I will say that I have been to Rome many times also, and its very nice, lots to see, but personally too big for my taste...

Thank-you very much,

Ciao..
