Holloween is a Celtic and Druid festival of the Dead. Also Known as "Samhain". It Marks the Celtic New Year. New years Eve being October 31st and New years Day being November 1st. The Roman Catholic Church tried to drive away the forces behind Pagan Holidays by changing their meaning. They changed Nov. 1st to All Saints Day. Amound many other Holidays. Every Christian Holiday is on a Day that was originally a pagan holiday. The practices we do today, the way we celebrate are all rituals of pagan holidays. The Christian Holidays that replaced the Pagan Holidays are celebrated not on the days they actually represent but on the Pagan Holidays. They are therefore only a disguise. Pagan pracices are still being reinforced. Trick or Treat- what you are actually doing is wearing a costume to disguise yourself so the the dead spiritual world believed to be walking around these two days will not recognise you and trick you. ... Trick or Treat! Don't Partake of the Witch's Brew .It's Poison!

I think you need to do more research on Paganism and what it really means. Whether we are Christians or not Pagan rituals are part of our heritage and alot of Christian ceremonies have taken these on for that purpose. They have close links with nature and celebrating life as a natural force, which I can not see any religion classing as 'evil'

Yes some people object to the overt commercialism of Halloween, as they do Christmas and various other celebrations. That is more down to the commercial and consumerist society we live in.

In answer to your question you are right and wrong. Celebrating Paganism is not evil in any way, but our overt gluttony of commercialism at the expense of others may well be viewed as such!

Truth? Lies? Evil? The Devil? Lee all of these things are personal beliefs, and being a former Christian I can tell you this: No where in the Bible dose it mention that this religion Christianity is the on true religion. Some verses may allude to that yes, but you have to remember that it is only through translation that we even have the Bible written down in the English language today, and furthermore I would like you to point out to me in the original Coptic versions of the Bible and or the Latin version, because this does not seem to be what Jesus intend Christians to be like. (That is my personal opinion not given or stated facts with in the Bible.) I am not condemming your faith, nor the base of your faith, and on the facts that Satan and evil beings are the ones are misleading people to fall a way from Christ and leading people to do evil on said day is a miss understanding and a quite common one at that I must say. I am a Pagan now and I will inform you of this that we in no way miss lead children or tempt others to do evil, not do we condone evil action. Why did I convert to Paganism? Because I found myself spiritually spiteful and hateful to others and their own personal beliefs, and I in no way as a Christian condoned what others believed. Then one day I decided to take a real close look at what I personally believed, and found myself leaning further and further away form Christianity. So it is not an evil holiday, nor is it a day for evil to try and miss lead people into doing bad things, and witches in no way want to hurt people. If any witch causes harm to another human being they themselves will have the same miss fortune fall upon themselves. It is called Karma.

*steps of soap box*

If I have offended anyone I apologize, and hope that people find the answers they are looking for. Have a good day.

WRONG it is the Pagan NEW YEAR(Samhaim, when the veils between the worlds is the thinnest). And the Pagans do not believe in or worship the Christian SATAN.
The feast of the Dead is also Christian in origin.
but there is nothing in between until the winter Solstice ,Dec 20-23
The Christian church took in many of the Pagan rites and rituals along with some other religions. to try and get them to convert. didn't work to well . and then they started calling them children of SATAN. but keep the rites and rituals. and keep the names of the holy days on or near the same days.

Halloween has been degraded by the Christians from all hallows eve.in Their religion. Trick or treat is also of Christian origin alone.
The witches brew is a strong honey mead.

Lee - I have no problem with anything you said except the last two sentences. My "Witch's Brew" is plain old apple cider with some nice cinnamon sticks and a pinch of cloves - It's served steaming hot to warm the kids who come treating on a cold night and it's only magic is reaffirming the love we have for our kids in this community. If that's too "evil" for you, then you have missed the point. The symbolism of celebrating the end of summer and the beginning of the new year with a feast of the fruits of our harvest labours is this, "a well nourished soul - is able to nuture others". If you see such charity as evil then perhaps you need to examine your own motives and decide why you are so selfish and mean-spirited, that you feel it is necessary to try to spoil a simple and joyful celebration by bearing false witness against your neighbor.

The facts you give in your "question" are absolutly correct. It is your implication that goes off track.

The practices and symbols of old pagan holidays were adopted and CHANGED IN MEANING! This last part is very important. Any object or practice can have multiple meanings. A cup of wine can be used as part of a drunken orgy or to remember the Last Supper our Lord celebrated with His disciples.

Because NEW CHRISTIAN MEANING has been given to the practices and symbols of the pagans, they are NO LONGER PAGAN. You can go to any Mass on Easter Sunday in any Catholic Church and you will hear about the resurrection of the Lord, His conquering death, our promise of everlasting life. You will not hear anything about any Babylonian fertility goddesses.

Not quite. Halloween is a Catholic holiday, that is on (approximately) the same date as the Celtic festival of Samhain. The timing of Halloween is certainly chosen to rival Samhain - but note the word "rival". The Catholic holiday was meant to usurp, not continue, the Celtic celebration.

hmm...
Christmas and Easter were both pagan holidays- Jesus was not born anywhere NEAR december 25th. These two solstice days were selected to try to bring Pagans into the fold of Christianity.

BTW, it pretty much worked, and stopped a civil war! I love it when a good plan gets executed well!

Christmas trees derive from druidism, and the Christian sabbath was switched to Sunday to incorporate sun worshipers, so I don't see why Halloween should be a big issue.
