The bones in the midfoot are pretty sturdy. I doubt a small piece of wood would likely have caused a fracture. Apply an ice pack for two days directly to the site to decrease the swelling. If the pain should worsen consult a doctor who may apply a special dressing like an Unna Boot to relieve the stress. Don't walk excessively or play sports for two to three days minimum to permit healing of the injured
soft tissues.

you could always drop a bigger one on the other foot and then you can feel the relief in how much better it now feels Than the other, all so, you'll live! we used to drop hundreds of pound steel bobbins on our feet in the steel mill and just reach down and tighten the laces and move the steel toe around a little and never take the shoe off til we went home. we knew that what in your mind is what we learned to avoid . once you don't do allot of nice things to your foot when your means to it once and a while you miss the point did you soak the foot did you go to any heating pads and just more or less kiss foot foot and be nice to it, your unpleasant feeling aren't going to make you happy so go make you foot happy and maybe you two can get out of this together try liking it again, i know it makes me feel better i like gensinge oil from walmart. if you want to wrap it to relieve throbbing then you start above the injury by at least a foot above the spot and wrap down past it so that you are wrapping away from the heart and adjust tension to the best comfort, prop foot up and smile at it.

I would off not thought you have fractured you foot with a piece off wood. And yes you can have a plaster cast if you have fractured your metatarsal but all depended where the fracture is thats if you have one.Go get it x-ray if you have a fracture they will either strap the toes together or your will need a plaster cast and crutches and this will be on for up to 6 wks.Good Luck

Well, I have broken the bone on the outside of my foot just from stepping on it wrong. However, my doc told me to just wear a sturdy hiking boot in lieu of a cast, and to use crutches for a few weeks, and it healed just fine. But definitly get it x-rayed. Plus, if it's broken, it will be swollen and have point tenderness, (ie., it hurts ALOT in one spot.)

You definitely need to hop over get it looked at by a doctor, and possibly x-rayed to see what damage has been done. How big was this bit of wood - it would need to be pretty big to do too much damage.
