Health surveillance pertains to the monitoring of the work place to ensure that harmful/adverse materials are not being added into the work environment (or if they are, they are being controlled.) Medical surveillance is to monitor the health and well-being of a specific human subject.

Health surveillance is broader in scope than medical surveillance. Health would include subjects such as sanitation, food, safety and security; while medical would be more limited to medical illnesses, disease and prevention.
