The black stone is like the bricks and cement that make up the Kaaba. It is not holy at all and is not worshiped in any shape or form. The black stone is nothing but a Heavenly object (an asteroid) that GOD Almighty descended on earth to determine the exact location of where His House was going to be built by Abraham and his son Ishmael, peace be upon them.

While Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him kissed the stone before, because it was chosen by Allah Almighty to descend on earth to determine the location of the Kaaba, but that still doesn't make it anything holy.

It certainly makes it a remarkable and noticeable object that is worth visiting and seeing, but anyone who worships it is an idol worshiper! And like I said above, those ignorant and illiterate from the Muslims who go as far as rubbing themselves against the Kaaba and/or the stone to get "blessings" are not representing Islam's True picture at all.

Simple answer, one of the companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) had said:

“By Allah! I know that you are only a stone. You neither benefit nor harm. If it were not that I saw the Prophet (peace be upon him) kissing you, I would not have kissed you.” (Al-Bukhaaree & Muslim).

not "near Kaaba"... The stone itself called Kaaba, and it had been built by prophet Abraham and his son Ismael.

It is the "house" of the start of the monotheist religion ( Islam) and it is the pointer to the direction where all muslims pray ( same for everybody). Muslims DO NOT worship black stone. They pray towards it.

Regarding the black stone, hajr-e-aswad, there is a hadith (tradition), attributed to the illustrious companion of the Prophet Muhammed (pbuh), Umar (may Allah be pleased with him).

Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I know that you are a stone and can neither benefit nor harm. Had I not seen the Prophet (pbuh) touching (and kissing) you, I would never have touched (and kissed) you". (Sahih Bukhari, Vol. 2, Chapter 56, H. No. 675)

it's all about united muslims toward one direction during prayers. just like if i am praying in my room, i am not praying to my door or to the wall, but to God alone.
