I think the reason behind most people not liking the police is because 90% of the time your first encounter with the police will be on a bad note ie. ticket, traffic violation..etc. Lets not forget the media. How many times have you seen them cover the officer that entered a burning structure to save a life and lose his or hers? Compare this to the times the media has covered a corrupt officer shooting or beating a subject. When if they gave detail to why the subject was shot or that the officer was actually not making lethal contact to the body to have the subject comply and release the weapon, or the idiot did drop the object in his hand when asked the media wouldn't have a story to begin with. Then there are the haters out there that a have a problem with a authority...

you should do some research on the matter there's lots of corruption in the police and law enforcement and it's been getting worse. check out the LAPDs record, and NYPD or you can try the drug dealing New Orleans Police force. tons of these guys should not be given weapons and the power that comes with being an officer of the law. I'd say people dont like the police because people dont trust them anymore, we realize that these are regular people who passed a few tests and were given the title of policeman. they screw up like the rest of us and they're very suseptible to corruption since cops dont make much money. but of course we're still going to call them because when you think about it, who else are we going to call when we need help

I do not like most cops, because of personal experiences where I, or a family member, have been victims of civil rights abuse, and show of force. After filing a grievance, I learned that Internal Affairs is just as corrupted. The Chief does not want problems, and the Mayor does not want a lawsuit.

They do not release data on citizen grievances, they dismiss all allegations unless filmed on tape, and the rotten apples still qualify for raises, and promotions.

Then I get the typical "you must have done something" reaction, that builds up the cover up for corruption in the police, excusing their abuse.

When I am in trouble, who do I call? Oh, I still dial 911. My taxes pay for the service they owe me. But I am very suspicious, cautious, and hopeful that I get a decent cop this time.

according to probability by way of fact they don't look to be a area of the lawmaking technique in the 1st place? The rules that are for this reason enforced are made the two by using judges, bureaucrats, or by using politicians. The regulation abiders could experience thoroughly disempowered whilst they are made to obey possibly unfair rules, ordinances, bylaws, rules, rules and strictures that's an imposition of their freewill. The function of the regulation enforcer then is to enforce the regulation. the project that usually arises is the translation of that regulation whilst it extremely is utilized and a great sort of times this ends up in specific conflict and we usually call this 'abuse' of means by using the enforcer of the regulation, ie, cops etc. working example, we could evaluate a police officer pulling over on the edge of a highway, and forestalls a individual with the intention to question a individual on the line, this action could be interpreted by using the guy private citizen, as the two, an imposition of a individual's freewill to stroll freely alongside the line unfettered by using the regulation and could for this reason be accosted, needlessly, by using a regulation enforcer, who could be, in this actual on the spot, could be seen as an 'abuser of the regulation', extremely than 'an enforcer' of the regulation. in this actual occasion the guy strolling alongside the line is immediately seen as a 'suspect' who has been stopped for thinking.

Some people just have difficulty with authority, other people are anti-government.

Personally, the only thing I dislike about cops is that quota system they have on giving out tickets, I hate having to be more careful on the road closer to the end of the month.

The only other problem I'd have with a police officer is if they weren't nice enough to act in contradiction to the law to preserve moral integrity. For example, if a policeman could avoid jailing a prostitute, they wouldn't be doing well by the book, but they would be doing well to let a person go who hasn't done anything wrong or subjected anyone to any sort of victim, The illegalisation of prostitution is nothing but an arbitrary and purposeless restriction of freedom, made for no other reason than population control, any arguement made to make prostitution illegal is the same for promiscuity, but the fact is there's no basis to make it illegal to have money passed around an activity that is otherwise perfectly legal. If a police officer doesn't have the intelligence and moral integrity and character to act for justice and moral integrity as for the purpose of their job, instead of the semantics of the book, then that would be a police officer who has forgotten why he gets paid.

Respect for authority has dwindled over the past 45 years. As a child growing up in Ohio, we were taught that the police officer was your friend. At the time it really seemed to be true.

As a teen, seeing the unrest, watching racial tensions flare, and being treated differently because of my hair led me to understand police are NOT MY FRIEND.

They are today overworked, underpaid, out gunned, and strapped with so many laws that forbid them to do a better job of keeping us safe. Still have my doubts if they are my friend or not, that innocent trust evaporated many years ago.

A lot of people have negative feelings for law enforcement because often they are themselves in trouble with the law or they didn't receive the response they were looking for... basically they may have had a bad experience.

Bad cops are not weeded out. Too often they are protected soley because they wear the uniform.
Cops seem suspicious of everyone and don't get out of their cars and get to know the people they work for, so we don't get to know them. In my town, Latin cops are biased against whites.

Top this off with the media's presumption that a cop is always in the wrong (particularly when dealing with blacks) and you have a distrustful, suspicious public.

many reasons....
--ever heard of one bad apple??? you get harrassed by enough for no reason, you look at all officers like they will harrass you.
--another reason, some adults dont feel like they need to follow anyone's rules.....and they teach their children the same.
--some people have no respect for themselves and you're asking them to respect another?

there are many more reasons
