There s an old saying: "what you are is God s gift to you. What you become is your gift to God."
M. Scott Peck, M.D. said, if I recall correctly, that the purpose of life, love, living and loving is to facilitate growth, either your s or someone else s. Peck says we are all called to grow, and must grow, if we are to be healthy humans. And likewise we are made better persons if we some how find a way to exercise charity and help facilitate someone else s growth. Neither one of these things are very easy.
We all have our different strength s and our weaknesses. We are all called to grow. This implies that Love is when we see in someone else, someone who can help us grow in many areas we are deficient in, on the one hand, and someone whom we can help grow in their deficiencies on the other hand.
At the same time we need some overlap, some commonality - be it culture or values or something that allows us to be with someone.
The joy that comes from love and falling in love, I think is the realization that we ve found someone whom we can be our selves with, that that self has value in helping the other to grow, and that self will be made more valuable by growing in response to the other s presence, and an un-articulated sense that this is the key, the gate way to heaven, because if we grow, if we help others to grow, if we love, and truly love, then we make ourselves more suitable to fit in heaven after we die, and we experience heaven, if only in a very thin slice, while we live, that assures us of the here-after, and some kind of union with the god-head or something like that, a god-head that is entirely love itself.
When you find love, you have found your counterpoint - that soul which will help you grow, that will allow you to help them grow, and perhaps help others, and that delivers heaven on earth to you, as a sample, an appetizer for the infinite feast you will enter into ever-after.
See the movie "The Blind Side" and the happiness that the white wife/mother finds in herself when she is able to extend her capacity to love to a black child that they bring into their family. The whole family - everyone grows and is made more happy in this process.

It means what is says, that your soul becomes in tune with your soulmate. It means that something clicks inside you, that allows you to know, that this is the person, that you were meant to be with, you've found someone who completes you.
