There's a certain portion of our country that will pull out the race card anytime you even mention enforcing immigration laws. They'll call you a racist and say that deporting illegal aliens is simply because "you just hate brown people". They'll never ask you how you'd solve the problem or what should be done about it so that people can come here legally and in an orderly fashion that benefits all. They won't ask you why you want them enforced. They'll shrug off any mention of national security, crime, social services spending, state budgets or anything else that is logical. Here's a few others covering this issue today.

The reality is that most of us conservatives who rail against illegal immigration are not "anti-immigrant". In fact, off the top of my head, I don't even know of any conservatives who are truly hostile to legal immigrants who've come to our country seeking a better way of life for themselves and their families. Moreover, it personally makes absolutely no difference to me whether someone's ancestors came over on the Mayflower or whether they became a citizen yesterday. An American is an American is an American.

The most pressing matter facing America is not “poverty” or “racism” or "lack of health care." It’s illegal immigration by people who have no interest in embracing American culture, and I’m not talking about the degradation and filth coming out of Hollywood. I’m referring to valuable things like respect for the rule of law and a common heritage and language.

The President has now nominated White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales for Attorney General [head of the Department of Justice and chief law enforcement officer of the Federal Government]. Alberto Gonzales is a respected member of La Raza. La Raza is a Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization that promotes less stringent immigration laws. La Raza supports ‘The DREAM Act’ which would give undocumented students the opportunity to gain conditional permanent resident status under certain conditions and make them eligible to receive student loan assistance. La Raza also supports giving illegal aliens the ability to obtain driver licenses. Why would the United States want a member of this organization as its chief law enforcement officer?

When they have no other argument to defend their postion, they always default to the race card.

My experience is people who harp on wanting to label others in a racial way are the biggest racist of all. Just like the goons at the protests, they have nothing to say but call us 'racist' and 'nazis', thinking they will garner support.

The REAL problem here is NOT racial, but POLITICAL. It does NOT matter WHERE an immigrant comes from, it does NOT matter WHAT COLOR he is, it does NOT matter WHAT his MOTHER tongue is, if he enters ANOTHER nation ILLEGALLY, he is an ILLEGAL alien, making him a FOREIGN criminal trespasser, and he MUST be DEALT with as SUCH!

When they play the race card it puts the other side on the defensive and how can anyone prove that they’re not racists? They can’t.

Source(s):

The anti-illegal immigration movement isn’t about racism; it’s about preserving the quality of life for future generations of Americans.

I am a conservative. But I do have some problems with the stance of some fellow conservatives on immigration. The argument that bothers me the most is people say my grandpa, etc. came over here legally and blah blah blah.

The problem now days is with our current immigration system it is much more difficult to immigrate. In fact none of the people who come here illegally would ever be able to legally immigrate to the U.S. So I think we need to be honest and just say we do not want Mexicans and other Latinos coming here--unless we are also advocating some type of serious reform of immigration laws making it easier to immigrate.

On the other hand I do recognize the problem with immigration in Europe. And it is much more serious than our problem. Europe is rapidly becoming Islamic. It is not unlikely that Europe will be Islamic within the next fifty years. And this will mean the totalitarian states that exist in the Middle East will be there as well.

We do not face that problem with Latin culture. Our culture may change. And there may be groups that do not assimilate all that well for a long time (just as there are still residents of Little Italy, etc.). That does not bother me.

However, I am concerned if opening the borders to immigration will let in large groups of Muslims who are bent on thier jihad.

Immigration laws outdated dont match reality, and people say they can thru the system to immigration from Mexico. Most that can immigrate are highly skilled workers. Most of the illegals would not quality under even a agricultural visa with only 5000 spots open a year. President Bush is right a fence will not work without a legal channel to allow guest workers thru. US government should gut all the visa categories, and create quota outside of Bordering countries to limit immigration to a restricted set of highly skilled people. At the same time, Mexico and Canada sould not have a harder time to immigrate than a person overseas who pays 3000 dollar plane ticket. Immigration policy lacks common sense

Again you are correct on all counts I have read of yours! The only reason it is ever turned into a race issue is because it is the easy way out in this country when you do not have a valid argument. When you reach for the race card all around are suppose to shrink away ...... funny thing is it has been used more than a old rag so many times it no longer has the shock value all the people that depended on it hoped for.
Guess they are going to have to look for a new shock value quote.

Keep up the good posts

i think that all this with President Bush and stuff, is obsurd!! he should legalize a portion of immigants but he should put certain conditions for example that they have been here for more that 5 or 6 years have kids in school, have done there taxes, never had problems with the law, etc,..Or at least give illegal aliens driver licence; that woild mean more buying of cars, houses populate remote areas, more jobs but that would help the economy, more comsumpsion of everything!!!

I think the race card is maxed out.

Its been used so many times nobody pays it any attention anymore. Avoiding intelligent conversation by calling people "racist" is a cop out, and counterproductive.
