Anyone who owns a dog may eventually have to carry some type of liability coverage. New York has considered legislation that would require proof of liability coverage from anyone applying for a dog license. Uninsured dogs who are found without insurance coverage would risk being taken from their owner and sent to the local animal shelter.

Yes, that's exactly right. It has to do with the fact that the breed is so popular. Since there are more people owning that breed, it is likely that more Goldens are biting than say, Anatolians, because there are more Golden owners...

However, I don't think that's the only reason. There are more "rude", untrained and aggressive dogs today than ever before. This is because people don't take the time to train their dogs properly.

I own an Anatolian Shepherd and a Belgian Malinois. Anyone wanting to take my dogs away will have to get passed my gun first. My dogs are both protection trained so everyone automatically assumes they're dangerous.

This is because of how popular they are. They probably dont' factor in that they're one of the most popular breeds and they make the "aggressive" dog list by the amount of dog bites reported per breed.

If you consider how many golden retrievers there are in comparison to a lot of other breeds then you also realize that there would be a lot more reports of them biting. I'm sure the insurance companies don't factor things like that in.

It's also because of how golden retrievers are perceived. When you think about them you imaging friendly, ALWAYS nice dogs that are playing with children. BUT just like with anything else, there are always nice ones and always aggressive ones. I would think that people are more likely to go up to a golden retriever and stick their face in front of one vs most other breeds. I think the majority of bites are the humans fault anyways, so when you factor all those things in it does seem like the insurance company would do this with unreliable statistics and greed on their side.

Yep. I've heard it's because of the annual "Bad Dog Bite" list. The percentage of biting dogs to non-biting probably doesn't factor in, only the straight numbers. Since Goldens are so popular, it would stand to reason that owners would claim more biting claims than say a Bernese Mountain Dog.

Yeah, it's the insurance companies scamming. Though, technically ANY dog could be considered aggressive. My grandmother's old chuiahua (sp) Cha-Cha used to bite the hell outta me when I was a kid. Insurance companies suck. Next they'll be going after cat owners as well...........

Yes, they are. Like I've heard said before... My breed today, yours tomorrow.

edit: Chetco... in that case, to **** with the license. Someone tries to take *MY* dog, I'll hide him, go out and get a gun, then shoot them when they enter my house to try.

it's true. golden retrievers are trying to retrieve their lost golden self-esteem and fame which the chihuahua's took away. nothing the golden retriever can do but to be aggressive in any way they can! 'growwllll'...
