The only scenario that would elicit a positive response to your question, is "only after an accidental launch by Russian ICBMs." Russia's stockpile of nukes are sufficient to destroy the US....of course that would mean their utter destruction as well. The Russians are rational enough not to launch a pre-emptive strike, since they follow the MAD doctrine, as we do. Their aging early warning systems, however, will most likely trigger an accidental launch with catastrophic consequences for the world.

My opinion is no. There's so many other ways to destroy America. The Hurricanes last year did a real good job in the Gulf. Have you ever seen the movie Outbreak where a virus kills the whole village and comes to America through a plane. I believe a virus or God himself will likely be the ones to destroy America. The U.S. won't be destroyed in the sense of physically demolished, but the few hits that are within the realm of eventual possibility would devastate the U.S. economy and the political system. The United States would not thus be "destroyed" by the bombs themselves, but by the consequent and unfortunate political, social and economic outcomes.
