Harsher punishment for pubs who sell to underage drinkers.

Personally I'm not bothered. If they're adult enough to go in a pub and get served then they're adult enough to drink.

But where can under 18's go to socialise that does not sell alcohol?

Few areas have any provision for youngsters -- where's the youth clubs etc? They get moved on by the cops if they hang out on the streets.

Giving youngsters something that is more attarctive than a pub is the best way to discourage under age drinking.

This concern got here up in communication final night, by using sheer twist of fate. the only distinction being it became meditated the place non-alcoholic beer is permitted in faculties. It became extra out that even "non-alcoholic" beer includes alcohol - 0 .01%. that's negligible for grownup drivers (that's the reason of the beer's theory), yet for underage drinkers, it remains alcohol intake and, for this reason, unlawful. that's the regulation in the U. S.. As pronounced above, diverse international places have diverse rules. Germany, for one, enables beer intake by using minors (a minimum of it did in 1973/4. The rules could have replaced when you consider that then).

I totaly believe underage drinking is on the increase because the law tells adults they can't drink. I believe that anyone old enough to support themselves and take up arms to defend there country is plenty old enough to make decisions regarding whethetr or not to consume an alcholic beverage. If we indeed wish to call ourselves a free country as we so love to tell the world I think we should start practicing a little freedom and not have the government dictate what the hell we drink!

de-mystify drink, allow them to have a taste of your beer, or a small glass of wine with dinner when they are younger. That way booze won't be this big exciting unknown that it is to most young teenagers. Raising the age at which young people can drink will accomplish nothing, it will just mean more people drinking underage.

It's all about education and showing the bad effects of alcohol abuse as well as showing that with respect and moderation, alcohol can be an interesting and rewarding pastime.

Discourageing them isn't goin to do anything but make the problem worse. The BEST way to deal with underage drinking is to LOWER the age to 13. Lower age means less underage drinking...it's a simple logic...

A bit harsh maybe, but take them on a field trip to an alcoholic ward of a hospital, and let them see those who are dying of alcoholism, the distended livers that make the stomachs look 9 months pregnant, the yellow jaundiced eyes, and skin, and the pain and suffering they are going through.

As long as the beer companies portray drinkers as macho guys, the children will want to drink so they can be grown up too. Maybe they should show some smelly old guys in a run down beer joint sitting there with their beer bellys hanging over their belts.

I think we need to teach young people to appreciate alcohol as it was intended: A pleasurable luxury drink, rather than a form of rocket fuel with the sole purpose of getting the youth of today smashed beyond recognition.

Any adult participating in the alcohol consumption ny a minor should be charged with Child abuse, administering a noxious substance and anything else that will tack years on to their sentence. They should be jailed. If I was using 17 yr olds in a brothel everyone would be out for blood. Alcohol makes you so much more likely to suffer, rape, injury, rape and death. should an eighteen year old be able to accept this risks.

Show them pictures of what they'll "look like when they grow up"...have pictures of homeless, jobless, slobbering drunks who can't live a normal life. Show them pictures of destroyed livers and other physical problems caused by alcohol. Show them babies with FAS (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome) because their mothers (or even their fathers recent studies suggest) drank too much when creating the baby or during the 9 months.
Lastly, show them pictures of accidents and statistics of lost lives caused by drunk drivers.
Visuals are the best lessons to show young people. You can talk and have them read all you want, but if they don't see it, they won't really get it.
DARE has a good program where they dump off a crashed car at a school and everyone wants to know what happened, and they find out that it was a drunk driver's car. I remember when I was in High School they did that. It got everyone's attention and raised discussion about it.
Young people need to understand that they can be "cool" without drinking...actually, they can be MORE "cool" without it, because they have their wits about them.
