When i went to pick him up he was sooooo hyper with his brothers..but once i took him into the car he was super shy. I kinda expected this because hes in a new place..but i was wondering how long it will take for him to get used to mee. He looks so sad right now..i feel so bad for taking him away from his brothers! And the breeder gave me the moms blanket because my pup likes the smell bc it was his mothers. I'm starting to think it was too soon to take the pup. But i dont know...its just sad how it looks sooooo sad! haha.

It's not too soon to take the pup and soon he will be in love with you. But it may take a few days to bond. And if he starts howling at night, fill a sock with beans or rice and microwave it for a few minutes, and let the pup cuddle with it. :) Good luck.

i have a rottweiler and i got her when she was 6 months old. at first we are having a very difficult time to feed her because she doesnt want to eat and i asked the veterenarian about it and the vet told me that she is just trying to get used to eating alone. i think for your pup, she will get used to you right away because he has his mothers blanket with him. just take good care of him show him some love. we have the same situation right now because i also got a japanese spitz which is 9 weeks old. but i think she likes me. hehe.

keep an eye on him but give him his space. its hard not to try and get them to play when you first get them because they are so cute. but right now he is probably very overwhelmed by the sudden change. if you try to force a relationship the second you get him it may cause anxiety. i got a chihuahua two years ago and he acted the same way. i was told to take him home and let him be. after several hours of sleeping in his crate he began to explore the apartment. shortly after that he approached me. within a few days we were best friends. your little guy will be fine. dog rule!

It doesn't take very long. I have a rat terrier/fox terrier mix that is almost 6 months old and she was fine 2 or 3 days after I got her. Good luck.

Don't worry, it just needs time to adjust for being so alone. It's like a human being. Just talk to it and in a matter of 5 - 6 months, everything will be fine.

You can help also by putting a wind up clock in the bed to mimic the mother's heart beat. It will change quickly though.

Your baby just needs time to adjust. Separation issues are normal in puppies just taken to their new homes. You Shih Tzu needs to know who you are. Love, attention, food are all you need to do to win the heart of your puppy.
