Nope, you need a specific prescription. In glasses they are extremely different then in contacts. Talk to your eye doctor about it. Just call and be like do you think you can write me a prescription for some contacts. Your doctor may order them for you, so that they can get you the brand thats right for you.

There is some correlation between an eyeglasses prescription and the prescription for contacts, but no reputable optrician will provide one based upon the other without a new exam because there is a big difference between putting a corrective lens an inch in front of your eyes versus on top of your eyes.
I usually tell my optrician that I am planning to buy both, so he generates a scrip for each in the same visit... then when I tell the attendants what to order, I usually only order the contacts (my glasses are usually one or two prescriptions old because I don't use them as often). If I change my mind before my next visit, though, they at least have a "current" prescription for the glasses on file.

Well I did but that was only because my glasses prescription was under 3 months old and so there was no real chance of the prescription changing. Generally they do want to check your eyes though, although once you have a new prescription, it should last for a while (if you use disposable lenses).

The difference between the contact prescription and the glasses prescription are some measurements and a slightly more involved exam. They have to look more closely at the curvature of the eyeball, determine the type of contact that's best. You could go back to the same optometrist and ask for an abbre-viated re-exam if it was within one year.

Contact lens, the power of the prescription must be lower than glasses.

No, but Wal-Mart is a good place to try if you don't have insurance. You should call around and find out how much the exams are before you go.
The contact lens exam is usually $10-$25 more expensive than the eyeglass exam. You can sometimes get a discount if you got an eyeglass exam at the same place.

If you have basic long or short sightedness problems, then your glasses prescription will probably work with contacts. If you have astigmatisms that's a different story. Talk to your eye professional.

they are different prescriptions, go to Lens Crafters or something along that line and they will have a doctor in-store to do an eye exam.
