recently i took in a stray kitten which is around now 11 weeks old now..her name is april and she is a orange tabby. She is a Playful and loving kitten, but like a few days ago my grandmother decided that we should get her a friend to play with.... so we went and searched for a kitten yesterday and got us a 6 weeks old female calico kitten which we have named Layla. Since we have brought her here..April has hissed at her...and doesnt like going around her...if I am not watching them constantly...April will be pouncing on and what seems to be like hopping and biting Layla...and layla is trying to fight back and is crying abit sometimes...and april is just chasing down when layla trys to get away.....SOOO my question finally is.... is this just april playing..or actually trying to hurt Layla and if its her hurting layla...why?

Probably a bit of both. She may be a little bit jealous of the new comer. However, most of it is just playing. I have a kitten and a jack russell puppy and they actually wrestle each other with the dog dragging the cat around by the scruff of the neck!! It will take a lot for April to hurt Layla. Give them a chance to get to know each other

OMG! i just went through this maybe 5 days ago.....

i thought the same thing, they were biting and hissing, and like hunting each other down. i started to break them apart because one is 10 weeks old, and the other one is 5 months old.. so she is bigger. But about 4 days ago i took them to the vet and i spoke to her about it, and she said that they are just playing, and they will always play like that, but they will let the other know when they are hurting each other. She also said that in the future if one cat is hurt it is only accidental. ...

Mine calmed down after about 4 days, and now its been a week and they are still getting better everyday. JUST BE PATIENT... it is so hard, and i was bout to pull my hair out by the 4th day!

Goodluck

I recently brought my moms cat home and I already have a 4 year old cat and the other cat is almost 2 years old and at first they didn't get along, but now they are fine. They will get used to each other. Give them both the same amount of affection.

No it's not playing, whichever cat you have first will ALWAYS be territorial when you bring any new animal into the house. It's very normal. Give it time, and they will eventually get along. You should seperate them at night so they don't get into it too bad while you're not watching. Giving them a break from each other is good, anyway.

Since these two kittens are total strangers with each other, that is their first tendency.... to quarrel. There's still a period of adjustment. In 3-4 months, they will be nice with each other. Don't worry.

Give them time to get used to each other, the behaviour of pouncing on each other will continue through kittenhood, and well into cathood if they're the playful types.
