My naturopath and local health food coop have both encouraged me to try coconut oil. For cooking, coconut oil is more stable at higher temperatures. Olive oil I don't think is good to use for high heat sauteing only low to medium temps.

I think coconut oil got a bad rap in the 80s, but is not as bad for you as was claimed.

I bought some coconut oil, but havent used it much. You need ot buy extra-virgin.

Here's an webpage about coconut oil:

Hey, you're reading all of these comments about coconut oil being unhealthy. I actually read something once that said that olive oil is not unhealthy, and that it has been portrayed that way to shut it out of the cooking oil business. Do you know anything about this?

Olive oil is one of the healthiest choices for cooking. I prefer it over most oils. It has a good flavor, is light, and better for you than most oils. It is monounsaturated so it's better for you (very low saturation).
Coconut oil has a different flavor and it is higher in saturated fat than olive oil. It has many health benefits, but be aware that it stimulates the thyroid function. If someone already has high-thyroid, that could be a potential problem.

I prefer to use Olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil. It is a lot healthier than coconut oil.

In Asia, we use alot of coconut milk in most of our cooking. From savoury dishes to sweets. However, because of its high cholesterol rate, many has subsidised it with Yogurt and low fat milk.

The same goes for coconut oil, we subsidise it either with Olive Oil or Soya Bean Oil. It is definitely alot healthier for the heart.

Olive oil is much better for you and you can use it to cook almost anything. Coconut oil is much better for use on hair and skin rather than eating.

Olive oil is much healthier. I have never seen coconut oil for sale in any grocery but you can find olive oil anywhere.

Coconut oil will kill you. Olive oil on the other hand is actually good for you in moderation.
