True, it does have a lot of carbohydrates (sugar) and electrolytes (salt) which for intense athletes is a good thing. However, for the average joe this is too much sugar. You will likely barely burn off the extra calories from the sugar if you do.

There are many benefits that result from using Gatorade Energy Drink. First, the Gatorade Energy Drink helps athletes maintain an optimal daily carbohydrate intake, aids in glycogen recovery for post-training and also good for pre-event training. Second, it includes antioxidants that help protect the body against free radicals. Third, the B-Complex vitamins are included as part of the daily diet and in energy metabolism. Lastly, consuming Gatorade Energy Drink is a convenient way to fuel your body.

Gatorade is good for the health because it contain a 6%25 carbohydrate solution that helps speed fluid back into the body and fuel working muscles. Research shows that Gatorade absorbed just as fast as water. If you are an athletes you often have greater sweat and electrolyte losses due to engaging in longer, more intense workouts. To help you more fully replace the electrolytes they lose in sweat during these longer, more intense workouts, it would be best to drink Gatorade.

If you are an athelete training for long periods of time in which you sweat, Gatorade or a similar sports drink is necessary to avoid hurting your body. As a regular refreshment, it is not as thirst-quenching becasue of the salt, it has a lot of sugar (carbs) and other substances that your body will not process in the same way as when it is working hard. Although I would choose it over mountain dew or something, it is not the best.

Gatorade does not have caffiene in it. Gatorade is also not fizzy... There is no carbonation.. There is alot of sugar and sodium, a fair amount of Sodium and a third electrolyte that I can't think of but it's too much sodium and sugar for a couch potato, but it is a good alternative for Cola's especially for kids. Water is much more hydrating by far, because sugar will draw water from your system to process it. Caffiene will also draw water from your kidneys. So it goes in order of hydration- Water, Decaf Coffee, Gatorade, Kool-Aid, and then Cola's

I doubt it can be termed "good" health wise, but it does offer benefits. The drink itself is loaded with sodium, so I don't' care for it, and opt for Powerade if I need to be hydrated. I think the benefit of drinking it, is to replenish the body after exertion, as a "better" choice then soda, or loaded sugary drinks.
In my opinion, the best we can do is grab some bottled water after any activity.

no, it is not good for a regular person who is just thirsty. It was designed for athletes. If you are a person who uses up all your energy literally, and the only way it can quickly get replenished is by a liquid , then it's the drink for you. Otherwise, leave it alone, and go for ice-cold water!
