I have suffered from insomnia for a few years now and have taken tylenol pm, benadryl, and anything else with dyphehydramine in it so I could sleep at night. At first each would work, but then the affects would get less and less noticable until they didn't help me sleep at all. My doc suggested getting Melatonin, that can be bought over-the-counter. So, I picked some up and take one pill every night about an hour before I want to crash. I've been taking it for over a month now and I haven't had any of the nasty side effects that the other meds gave me (restlessness, still feeling tired, not being able to wake on time, etc.) thus far. I (unfortunately) forgot to take one tonight so it's 1 a.m. and here I sit...

Okay, first off, drink something warm, like tea, or even milk. You can have milk cold too, cause it's very relaxing.
Next, get yourself comfortable, you can rustle around, find the perfect position, surround yourself with pillows, or wrap yourself up with blankets.
Then, there's two methods to falling asleep.
One, you can just focus on your breathing. Listen to it, don't dwell, just let it drift in and out, but just focus, so your mind doesn't wander to what you're going to do, or what you didn't do that day. Just focus on your breathing.
Another thing, is when you're focusing on your breathing, and your chest is expanding, think of it as a wave from the ocean, washing up on the beach, which would be you, taking back all the thoughts that distract you from sleep. When you inhale again, you're taking in peacefulness, and rest.
Works for me everytime.
Hope it works for you, hun!

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at http://tinyurl.com/jfzpz useful
for getting sleep.
