I was raised Christian but am converting to islam. A lot of people look at islam as something sinister. Islam is a very peaceful and loving religion. Some people think that the Quran teaches muslims to hate. That is not true. I have the Quran that i read. No where in the Quran does it teach about hate. It teaches the true meaning of God's (ALLAHS) wishes. When I read the Quran I feel at peace and happy.

I wish more people would get to see the true meaning of Islam. My husband is Muslim. He had opened my eyes and introduced to a world of peace and tranquility. I feel happier with my life since being introduced to islam. ALLAH is the most gracious and caring God.

Anyone should go to their local mosque and get some prochures and booklets on islam and they also should get an English version of the Quran. The Quran is a great book to have.

These are some of my thoughts about Islam. I am not Muslim - it is an outsider's view - so I will inevitably hold some misconceptions. I apologize in advance for these, and am open to correction.

1. Islam is strictly monotheistic - there is only One God (Allah), who is separate from creation; so no "Son of God" or "blessed Trinity", only a single entity (spiritual entity? or with a physical body?), and God will not be manifested in creation (i.e. no sacraments, no incarnation).

2. Not much room for differences on the fundamentals of the religion; non-ecumenical; there is one way to worship Allah, and that is the way revealed through the Prophet Mohammed. One God >> One true religion.

3. Allah communicates with us through prophets, such as Moses, Jesus and Mohammed, and primarily through the Qu'ran. In Islam it seems that the Qu'ran is the fundamental revelation from God, whereas in Christianity it is the person of the Messiah, Jesus, and the Kingdom he is creating.

4. It seems to me that the prophet Mohammed did not necessarily condemn violence fundamentally. I get the impression that Jesus opposed all violence, and taught that we should even love our enemies, even those who persecute us. Is this teaching of grace also a teaching of Islam, since Jesus is also a prophet?

5. MOST muslims seem to have a very high concept of morality and a high view of humanity - reflective of their belief in One God, Creator of all. I'm not sure if it's media bias, but it seems that SOME other Muslims are less forgiving, judgemental, and not as quick to condemn violence.

Peace and blessing,

and expecting correction,

Michael

I don't think that most Americans have anything either for or against Islam. Most Americans don't know anything about it. Americans are cautious when it comes to Arabs though. They know that most Arabs are Muslim, and that most Arabs that hate the west are Muslim, but it still seems that most of the hate is based on political beliefs not religious ones. When Americans encounter Muslims that are Asian or African they feel no threat. When they encounter Arabs, they quietly wonder if they are going to do something crazy. This is something that many Arabs in the USA are starting to resent. They resent not only Americans who treat them that way but also Arab extremists and blame them for all the trouble. There is a growing feeling that I am hearing from Arabs, "they are making us all look bad". If you are an Arab, it is important that you be strong in your condemnation of extremist actions, especially if you live in the west. Otherwise peope will not trust you. You cannot afford to be even a little simpathetic toward extremists.

Well I was going to confess that I knew little about either, but then I read the rather elaborate answer. However, the information didn't change my mind. My answer remains: When asked what was the greatest commandment in the Law, Jesus replied, " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and all the Prophets hang on these two commandments." God does not divide His people by religions or by denominations. He sees us all as His Creation who are either "saved" or "unsaved." Even there, His Love doesn't vary and neither should ours. We are COMMANDED to love EVERYONE and to bring God's Word to EVERYONE. It's that simple; unfortunately, it is not that easy. But guess what -- we were never promised that it would be easy. In fact, we were told just the opposite: "Pick up your cross and carry me." That statement is not talking about pinning a shiny cross to your shirt or wearing one on a necklace. It is a metaphor where the word "cross" stands for burdens, troubles, heavy loads, etc. Learning to love God first and foremost and also love EVERYONE is a life time task. The sad thing is we make it so much harder than it has to be. If you want proof, just look at the questions asked in this category. Can I truly say that I love everyone as I love myself. NOOOOOO, but I stay on task. When I fall, I get up and keep going. This is a life long walk and believe me --- I still have a long way to go. I wish sometimes (and I know this sounds simple) that I could package the love I feel and share it with all of my brothers and sisters. I pray daily for Osama Bin Laden. My prayers may never change his mind or his beliefs, but as I pray -- they change my mind and my feelings. Hate is an instrument of the devil and it really ticks me off to think that he tricks me and uses me sometimes. I feel like he is laughing at me; wiping out in my failures all that my Lord has accomplished in me. So I use that righteous anger to keep me going. The victory does belong to the Lord, and we must remember that our battle is with Satan -- not with each other.

Hey I'm a muslim too, we even have the same initials! Don't worry, people will always try to degrade us, but as long as you keep your faith in Islam, you'll be fine. Eventually, people will realise that we're not all terrorists and they might just accept us! If you still follow Islam, then you've come to understand it, so you can see that we're not as crazy as people think we are!

Islam is a peace loving religion. Muslims follow a religion of peace, mercy, and forgiveness, and the majority have nothing to do with the extremely grave events which have come to be associated with their faith. Muslims are those who submit themselves to the will of Allah (God). May Allah enlighten their mind and wisdom.!
