Just wondering because my ex boyfriend use to always say I looked prettier with my hair in a ponytail. He once said that he wouldn't go on a date with me if I were my hair down. I have long dark straight smooth hair! So why would he hate it so much? Arg! I dunno I dumped him right after he said that. Thanks.

both can look nice on a girl. it depends how it is cut, styled and worn.
having the hair down lets you see the texture and the shine of the hair and also frames the face.
but having the hair in apony tail gives the viewer a better view of the girls face and depending on the light can enhance the girls natural beaty since there is less shadow.
the pony tail depending on the girl makes her look cuter.
you can also try a cross between the two styles.
these are images from Anime but show a hair style that I find very flattering. I have seen about 3 veriations of this hair style.

I like the longer hair better down than ponytail. It's just a little bit though. This is not to say that women don't look out with other things in there hair. It also doesn't have to be really long for them to look hot. He was just obsessed how you looked with one style.

Personally I like long hair on a woman but pulling the hair back accents the facial features and is nice too.

It depends on the occasion. with a hat on it can look very nice in a pony tail. no hat I like like feel. It is how you like to wear it the counts. If a guy can't let you wear you hair the way you want to then he needs to get a poodle so he can have it cut the way he wants without hearing complaints.
Go for it and wear it the way that suits you and screw every one else and their opinions.

I prefer the hair to be down especially if its long. I couldnt tell you why he told you he wouldnt go out with you if you wore your hair down except the fact he was a complete moron. Good for you in dumping him cause you should wear your hair the way you like it.

i guess it depends for every girl. i personally like ponytails better but the girl i like looks better with hair down.

well i'm not a guy, but why did he say he wouldn't go on a date with you with your hair down, and your hairs straight. Straight hair can be cool, i wish i had straight hair.

hair down, usually. it is sexier. but maybe you just have a super beautiful face and he liked to look at it with out all of that hair in the way.

i like it both ways.
though, whenever you the hair is up, the face of the woman defined.
but when the hair is down you get to see the woman in a different view.
so personnaly i like both.
